I'll nominate Soheran for best poster of the year (by the way, whadup with male/female categorization?). I was away from the forum for a big chunk of this year, but Soheran's posts seem to shine out. They usually teach me something, they're fun to read, and he has good taste in books. As a Driven Leaf was wonderful.

I decided to do the male/female thing, like how the Oscars or whatever would do best male/female actor or whatever. It just seemed right :p

So many things that fill those categories have happened this year, how are we ever going to decide?

I'm sure there's a lot worse, but this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=544666) is pretty fresh in my mind as an example of a fairly terrible argument, even if only for the hard-to-read old English.

I don't remember these things for long enough, but I'd have to say that Soheran was consistently the best poster I've had to do with. I learned a lot, and usually we managed that in good nature and without fighting.

But favourable mentions go out to Trotskylvania, Jello Biafra and Loyal Opposition, as well as Xenophobialand and AnarchyeL (for the few times they showed). And I think there are a few other names that I can't recall right now.

And Vittos of course. Wouldn't be an argument without him.

And moving away from the hard arguing, I should mention CtoaN too.

As for topic, I think in the latter half of the year it would have been the one where I realised there was an issue to be sorted regarding the concept of "merit" (this one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=540325), I think and another one that was going shortly before or after it). That issue still needs sorting of course, but recognising that there's a problem is the first step to solving it. Not that I handled myself particularly gracefully. ;)

AnarchyeL is my nomination for best poster... in part because debating something with him is such an interesting experience. I generally lose, but always productively, and usually I'll come back to a discussion a few months later and realize that I lost even more severely than I thought, and even more productively.

This notion of "expanding" marriage is dangerous. Think of it as restraining a serial killer. Today its "well lets just expand marriage to cover gays", in other words lets remove the handcuffs, at least we restrain him by the feet. Before long people will be making excuses to the let the serial killer, and they do. And then he kills everyone. Think about it. Where does it stop? someone answer me that.
