Chinese food I hope...even though were on vacation...

Well that's dinner.

During the day, we'l probably visit the monuments around Washington since they're like the only thing open.

While family and friends are both in abundance this Christmas, I'll do my best to spend the day alone. I see other people often enough (almost every day!) and the 'special occasions' excuse just doesn't cut it....

ok, I admit it, I'm pretending to be more antisocial than I really am, but well... this is the internet, where anything can happen (and unfortunately does).

I just got done putting the troop to bed after an evening at grandma's house(my mother). My parents, extended family and I are traditionally a Christmas Eve family. Christmas day is traditionally a day for the immediate family to open presents, eat cinnamon rolls and watch the cat try out all the boxes. :)

how does one go about spending Christmas alone

I spent a couple of Christmases alone. When I was in the Army almost everyone goes home on leave for Christmas, but I didn't for two years. I was the only guy from my unit in the barracks for almost two weeks.

However, since my family lives about 15 miles away I shall be spending Christmas with them, especially as this is the last time I'll be able to see most of them for about a year.

I'll be spending Christmas with my ENTIRE family on my Mother's side.

About 130 people Jampacked into my Grandmother's very tiny house.

And yes, there will be food shortages, toys broken, and babies crying.

Ahh Christmas...

I'm going to be spending Christmas at my sister's house, with her family (her, my brother in law, and their 4 kids), my parents, my younger sister, my aunt, my brother in law's immediate family, and maybe a few more people.

Wow. I'm the only one so far spending Christmas alone? :p

My family lives a good 18 hours north of me, and all my friends are back on the mainland. Plus, I work on Christmas. Life sucks a little bit, but it makes us tough, too.

Haha, sometimes, 18 hours is a blessing. I miss them like crazy, though, if I actually stop and think about it. Besides, my mom just called and told me they're getting a puppy. I want a freaking puppy. :p

My first dog was a shih tzu, and I will never love an animal as much as I loved him. For the most part, I prefer medium to larger breeds, though. My family dog is a golden, and my ex's was a border collie. I loved that little guy almost as much as I loved my first dog. :p Such a sucker for border collie eyes.

I'm thinking of volunteering at the local SPCA after the Christmas rush passes, but I don't know if I'll have enough time between work and school. Besides, I think I'd fall in love with every dog there, and it'd break my heart. A sucker, I tell you. :p

Unfortunately, with my family. Well, with my mom, which means, not at home, not in my own bed, away from my computer, my friends and my lizards. Away from solitude and stuck in a house with my sister >.<

Christmas for me is ever an excersise of repressing hatred -_- As i get older, this becomes more and more difficult as I begin to care less and less.

But, I already got my wonderful party with my friends. I suppose I should suck it up and just deal with the torture. It's only two days. *sigh*

we 'spent' our 'christermass' on the solstice, my wife and i, and one of her other friends. we feasted and exchanged modest gifts and all and all had a wonderful and gratifying time.

(none of the three of us btw are christerans, nor jews, moslems, or even neo pagans, though i'm maybe a little of everything and the other two are baha'is, which is in a sense, still western montheism, but like jews and moslems, have different holy days then the christerans. we all do believe in peace and equity and hope for it and objective persuit of means of achieving not only peace but universal abundance and well being, and it is this we celibrate, rather then so much any one belief's holy day, nor the economic feeding frienzy which seems to have usurped them.)

Well I'll be working since public servants don't get holidays off, well, unless criminals decide to start acting all nice like for the holidays. After that I get to go home and eat a nice turkey dinner courtesy of the folks at HungryMan frozen dinner company. I'll be eating while watching the ever present Christmas Story movie marathon on TBS...because no Christmas is complete without watching the movie at least 5 times. Anyone care to join?

My mom went up to the nursing home to visit an older woman whose best friend died recently, and she had lunch there.

I skipped lunch, and played Civ 4 on Prince level, won it in 6 hours.

Then my mom and I went to a restaurant, and totally stuffed ourselves on sushi.

Then I got drunk, just like every other night.

Then I posted this post.

Oil them up, put them on a baking tray, bake them for an hour. Skins on, I guess wash them first.

They don't need anything but maybe some salt. Great vegetable!

Hmm... not what most of the recipes say...
Most say boil them first until the outside is soft, then scrape them with a fork to make the outside rough, THEN oil them up and bake them...

Recipes are for morons. Bake them until they aren't crunchy any more, that's a long time for swedes or parsnips. Never "boil" any vegetable, unless you mean to make soup or stock, i.e., consume the water they were boiled in.

Maybe I will run into someone and get to know them though, like in that Waitresses song...yeah, that would be nice.
