PARTY RESPONSIBLY, DRINK RESPONSIBLY AND BECAREFUL OUT THERE. Last thing I want is for someone to post another fatality and it ending up to be a poster here.
Let's Deck the Halls, gather around the festive tree and enjoy each other's company. The Silly Season is stressful enough for many, so relax, have some Eggnog or some punch and enjoy a couple of hours before heading back into that heck we all call "Real Life."

yes, thank you. we had a wonderful solstice as mentioned at the time.
with feasting and merryment had by all,
without empaired judgement or need theirof
nor any great nourishing of economic intrests
or priestly pretentions,
though with our usual bit of nonconventional spirituality.
and of course the cheer in our hearts to pass on such blessings
to all who wish and are open enough to not deny themselves of them.

You know, I think it's remarkably telling that all these "happy holiday" comments, so utterly trying to hold the pretext of fairness and being open to all religions, so utterly fail at hiding their bias.
Yes, let's wish everyone a "happy wintertime holiday", devoid of any specific denomination in mind, but let's post it on christmas eve, days after Hannukah has passed, the Jewish New Year months ago, and Passover still months away.
I mean honestly, putting up some token sense of inclusiveness so obviously timed to exclude all those you supposedly wish well, and adding a christmas tree for emphasis, just makes the bias all that more obvious.
I simply wish people a merry Christmas, 'cause that's what I celebrate. I wish people the best - good times and happiness. If people are offended by that, I hope they tell me so I can make sure not to wish them a merry Christmas again, in the same way that there are some people I never say "Good luck" to anymore because they took offense. (They would be able to do [whatever] due to their own skill, they didn't need luck.)
And on the other side, I would appreciate being wished a happy Hannukah, a great Kwanza, a happy new year, happy holidays, happy capitalistic shopping winter day, good luck, all the best, or being offered seasons greetings, a happy birthday, etc etc. I never turn down a positive thought, nor am I offended by them - nor will I expect anyone to be offended either.

You forgot the Bah Humbug in your speech Art, and some of us actually been spreading "Happy Holidays" since the day after Thanksgiving.
Happy Holidays to you though.
I simply wish people a merry Christmas, 'cause that's what I celebrate.
Why in the world would you assume that other people believe what you believe?
You forgot the Bah Humbug in your speech Art
No "bah humbug" intended. I merely point out that if you're going to say "happy holidays" well after most holidays have ended, and on christmas eve, either be intellectually honest and say "merry christmas" and stop pretending to give a shit about the beliefs of non christians, or actually take an effort to make wishes at the proper time.
Saying "happy holidays" when it's blatantly obvious you mean ONE holiday specifically. Either admit your bias, or work against them. Don't blatantly demonstrate them while trying to pretend not to.
Seriously, what holiday? OK there's yule, and Kwanza is approaching. Hannukah ended two weeks ago. Ramadan and the Jewish New Year ended in October. Chinese New Year isn't until February, Passover is later than that.
Seriously, if you're going to wish people a "happy holiday" and be taken seriously as you really mean that, for people other than christians, you really should time it better to actually include other holidays, because, for a good chunk of the world, the holidays are over.

Eh, good point.
My point, simply, is this. The world is an incredibly diverse place. At any given moment somebody has a holiday upcoming. If you care about people, and wish them to have a good time, why would you restrict that to only your holiday season?
I find such outpourings of "good wishes" at this time of the year remarkably hollow and shallow. Why is it people are willing to care only when its their own holiday time?

Neo Art. No one is stopping anyone from posting greetings for other holidays.
You claim that my posting this tread on Christmas Eve is showing my bias and thus a 'hollow' form of fairness, yet within this whole month you and others who complain about "Christ"mas and the leaving out of other Religious Holidays and Observances don't do anything about it until someone posts a Christmasy thread, so I call your complaint to be a Hollow and hypocritical since you and some others just sit back and complain.
so I leave it to you then, to correct the gross mistake you see here by starting the threads to celebrate Passover, Chinese New Year, Ramadan, Kwanza, Hannukah, and other Religous Holidays since you deem this to be a selfish 'Christian Only' thread that is masqurading as something else.
I'll be awaiting those fair and non-bias celebatory threads with great anticipation moreso than the annual complaint about "Christians" and their selfish threads.
so untill then, Happy Holidays. :)

JuNii:
Ain't it wonderful that the complaints about Christmas started about October, and now that it's actually the day, when you actually give good wishes, you're bitched at too?
Yeah.
Why in the world would you assume that other people believe what you believe?
I don't, and I never said I did. I celebrate Christmas, and that's usually a good time for me as I get to be with my family, eat tasty food, and exchange presents with loved ones. "I hope you have a good time as well during these days, and I wish you all the best", is what I mean by those words.
I use those words in that fashion due to my upbringing and local area, since the vast majority here celebrate Christmas too - and that includes people who don't believe what I believe, Christians and non-Christians alike. As I said, I see it as akin to saying "Good luck" - I'm wishing the recipient well, regardless of his or her religion or beliefs. And should my assumption that people would appreciate kind words and good wishes be proven wrong, then I will respect the wishes of the recipient and not say it again.
Like in your case. I shall try to remember not to tell you that I hope you have as good a time around the 24th of December as I have or hope to have. I will not, however, turn down any positive greetings you would like to offer me on days when you're feeling happy and feeling like spreading the cheerfulness, so you may give me a positive greeting any day of the year that you see fit. I promise that I will not be offended.
Have a day :)
