Folks have been talking about NS2 for ages.

I remember certain people announcing the death-knell of NS:G when I started my first nation, back in 2004.

So, no, I don't think it'll change much.

Nah.

A) 'Cause we're awesome.

b) 'Cause NS2 is never gonna come out. Its all lies I tells ya!

I'm not gonna pay for NS2. NS is still going to be around and I hope the NSG forums stay up so that original NSers can go in. If it is but my fellow NSG guys quit that would suck. I like NSG a lot, and I really don't know any other good forum sites.

Uh, I'm thinking he was talking about the demise of NSG being 15-20 years off, not the release of NS2.

Or maybe he could have been talking about the release of Duke Nukem Forever! :p

They could keep both NS2 and NSG.
and to pay for the operating costs, all they need to do is make it(the forum) ad based.

One thing is for sure: an ad based NSG is perfectly viable.. even if the economic viability of a pay-per-use NS2 is still to be tested.

Either way I wish the best of lucks to the NS2 project.

You can't really expect loyalty from a lot of people, except the diehards ... and they may even be hell-bent on death-by-mod or something along those lines. :)

Most people would just block them anyway, then the ad companies would get pissy because people that would never click them anyway are blocking their huge annoying ads and they don't want to find a better way. :D

Most people would just block them anyway, ..Blocking the ads would force the Pay-per-use system.
If at the beginning we had somehow Blocked the ads on TV... today, we would have to pay -up to- $50/hour to watch the WorldCup, the SuperBowl, and every other programming would have price tag.

BTW, Ive seen some Forums where the ads are a post.. random, the only way to block them would be to block all animations, sounds and Images.

I don't think we'll get the influx of new members. New people will go to NS2 and the current members will slowly start drifting off. The more the forums slow, the more people will drift off. And people will find new homes elsewhere.

As long as there's an iota of life, this place is still interesting, and still home :(

You can change the channel if a really obnoxious ad comes up on the TV, or record it and fast-forward through them. The thing is that if someone blocks an ad, they were probably never going to click it anyway, so all they're doing is saving everybody's time and bandwidth.

I like Google's approach to ads, I'll still probably never see one that I want to follow, but they're not annoying or intrusive, and they're just text so they don't make the page take forever to load. They're painless and effective for everyone involved.

BTW I am against the pop-up ad system (I have dis-allowed pop-ups) . But I dont mind the banners on top/side/wherever

As long as ads are sane, I don't mind them. I can't stand pop-ups. If I ruled the universe, every time a pop-up popped up, the creator would get an electric shock.

NS2? Can i have some of the money made from it's profits when it comes out, if it comes out?
Tuned to what? It seems you're trying to buy time for the developers, then sell the game at ridiculously high prices, then the world governments changes it's systems to the game, then you take over the world. Well i saw through that one! um i wonder how to stop it? I suppose boycotting it wouldn't make much difference with just me, unless i was some sort of celebrity or rich guy.
I'm reading way too much into this aren't i?
damn it it happens every time.
So should i post my thoughts or what other people want to hear?

We're starting to enter the realm of NASA projections. ("A man on the moon by the end of the decade," "new telescope by 2015," etc.) Unless NS2 comes with a space shuttle, I will be sorely disappointed.

... and killing free -ad based- services.

Anyone who goes out of their way to block those ads, didn't pay attention to them in the first place. So if the site gets paid per page view, they should still get the money, and if the site gets paid every-time someone clicks on the ad, they're not going to get paid either way.

Well if you're a keen CN player, their is one reason I think that will make it better, politics. Think of it like this, in CN politics barely exists except in the tiny fringe communist and far-right organization, the mainstay of CN alliances are nonpartisan organizations. The only thing that would excite me about NS2, apart from cool customizability options etc, is having the NSG atmosphere and debates attached to wars, alliances, diplomacy etc, it would be like International Incidents without the meaningless and overcomplicated RP'ing with no consequence. What made CN so popular was that war and actually nation building made every thing have consequence and a real atmosphere.

Of course, I won't get my hopes up, I remember first reading about NS2 when I found the NS forums back years ago in college.
