Questions about breeds

Ok, so I have a question about different breeds of the same animals. Let's use cats as an example. There are different breeds of cats, with their own personality, fur color, eye colors, and body builds. What I want to know is how did these different breeds come about? Was it genetic or was it selective breeding?

the differences in domesticated animals come from selective breeding (which is primitive genetics) overseen by humans

the differences in wild animals are due to natural selection (which is also genetics) brought about by the pressure of the local environment.
