Vacation? Where are you going?

Well there are two points of this thread. The first is to say that I won't be around for a few weeks, because I'll be in Switzerland for vacation. I wish everyone an excellent break, a merry christmas and a happy new year.

Second. What are your plans for the holidays? Are you going somewhere by yourself, with your family, doing nothing or doing nothing with your family?

What are your plans?

In January (which is when my family has done our Christmas thing for a number of years now) I am going to spend two days visiting with friends in New Jersey, followed by a day in San Juan, Puerto Rico, then a 7 day cruise with my family to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Bonaire, Grenada and Aruba. So ten fun filled days, 8 of them in warmer climates.

Germany, as from tomorrow (almost today infact as it's 11.56pm). For 11 days, mainly around Dusseldorf and Cologne. Possibly into France for a day trip as it's so close. Play it by ear.
Rather looking forward to it, as I've never been to Germany and am quietly hoping for my first ever white xmas.
Only suckful thing is that I'll be spending New Years on the plane, leaving 31st arriving home 1st. Have to be back at school on the 2nd, damn it all!

If it's flying in the right direction you can surf New Years!

Hey, welcome to my neck of the woods! Hope you enjoy it. I'm sorry to say though that the radio announced our Weiße-Weihnachts-Wahrscheinlichkeit (probabbility of a White Christmas) to have clocked in at 15% today, which means you might want to not get your hopes up too much.

I myself will flee this country very early on the 24th and settle down in the South of Spain (Cadíz) for a week, so that I can escape both Christmas and NYE.

Where, exactly?
Which country will you go to?

Personally I beleive that, in Europe, Switzerland has the best skiing but Austria doesn't seem so far behind....

I might have money to go somewhere when I get my income tax refund though.

France. TBH I don't really care that much about the mountains, if I can ski for 7 days I'll be happy, I'm going for the company (and the relatively low price). I believe there were 200 students medicine going, and we depart a day or two after our last exam. I hope I won't have that much hangovers so I can go skiing each day :p. But first I have to get trough the exams unfortunately :(

Thanks, I think I'll need it. I start friday with studying. We only have 2 huge exams, and because I'm lazy and stupid I didn't do a lot during the year, so meh, we'll see, I hope i don't have to redo any of them in the summer .

Ah...the East of France has some good skiing too though, so even if you don't care about the mountains, you'll get some good ones. :)

Good luck with your exams. Sounds like you'll have alot of fun going with that big group.

The farthest north in Italy I've been to was Venice, but I was also in the South of Switzerland, near the border to Italy and the mountains were AMAZING...and I'm sure they don't just dissolve into nothingness when they cross the Italian border, so yeah..I'm sure northern Italy has some fabolous skiing.

Yeah, they are awesome for skiing, and some fantastic views from the hostel room windows at the scenery after you've injured your knee from all that skiing is oftentimes included, too ;P

We're doing a cruise over Christmas to the Caribbean. Then back up to Boston for New Years, then back to Connecticut for a few days, then up to Vermont for some boarding, then back to Boston for real life.

I'm going to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
Now, this should be interesting, as I'm a UGA student, but, because my dad's a Hawaii alumnus, he got us tickets from them...
Meaning I'll be in the middle of a bunch of Hawaii fans. Wearing my Red and Black. (Though, he got tickets for a few of his friends, too, who are Georgia Alumni, so I suppose I won't be the only one!)

The funny thing is that once your parents have succeeded in alienating you, a lifelong dream of theirs, they're moving straight to Florida.

You'll be eking out an existence in Philly trying to be a photographer by day but selling your body down back alleys to pay rent and living on $2 dollar ramen noodles.

Then you'll wish you hadn't been such a whiny demanding child.

I can only hope some kindly philanthropic Jew sees your dilapidated state and takes pity, providing the means to gain back a modicum of respectability - oh the irony as you fight down the urge to choke in forcing yourself to say 'thank you' to a Jew.

I'm off back home to Cambridge myself, looking forward to a 15 hour flight and arriving at 5am in the morning - hope Nanny's not too old to make me a meal the old hag.

Conquer the world and and some serious slacking in general. Yes, both at the same time. I plan on exchanging Luxembourg at one of those pot-luck gift exchange things. Oh, and lie to my aunts about how much I appreciate the tube socks.

I thought of going to London for a few days next year. The British museum has an exhibition on the first Chinese emperor, and apparently they've got some terracotta army warriors on loan... I always wanted to see those, and China being rather far away, I thought I'd hop over to London instead :)

Me and the folks are going up the coast, where my dad and his gf will make long hikes in nature and take pictures of leaves and bark!
I will remain in the little rented cottage with my laptop and a book and do exactly what I do every other day. I may also get to sit on top of a four legged hoofed creature for an hour or two at some point, maybe... and I will have to stick needles in myself. Sounds fun, no?

Then they wonder why I'm not absolutely thrilled about the prospect of going away on holiday...

Still haven't decidsed if I'll caucus R. or D., but I know which candidate I'll caucus for in either case. :)

Sadly I haven't the time nor the money to go on a vacation. I have been in Texas the last couple of weeks on business, but that certainly wasn't a vacation. While the warmth has been a nice change of pace (it's been actually hot a couple of times) the Texans seem to have no regard for traffic laws (if Texas has such things) and the safety of others while driving. The 8 hours of class each day on hazmat shipping has also been most unvacationlike.

If only that were true, then i could do more studying before my tests and ace them. Instead of chatting on here for hours at a time.
