Little by little we're getting somewhere

Finally! The US is admitting it needs to assess the effects of global warming!

It's only a small step but it's in the right direction. They need to out-right say that they will commit to doing their part.

Hm. Meh. Global warming may eventually kill a good many of us, then it will stop. At least if my fencing teacher's theory (that global warming is due to over-population) holds any water.

If it gets into a major feedback loop, it may be some time before it stops.

And who better to assess the causes and effects of climate change than a fencing teacher?

Teachers of anachronistic customs aren't the best scientists.

We're (as in Humans) only on earth for a very short while, since humans have exsited for less than a million years, and the earth has been around for about 4 billion, and we will go exstinked probably within a million years. This is a cycle that has gone on for a very long time, but we've made it go much faster then it has gone in the past.

Bali negotiations ended with a last-minute drama that saw the US raise objections to the draft, only to set them aside in the face of outrage from developing countries. The White House has nonetheless expressed "serious concerns" about the deal.

World climate negotiators set a 2009 deadline Saturday for a landmark treaty to fight global warming after two weeks of intense haggling led to a climbdown by an isolated United States.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who flew to the Indonesian island of Bali for a late appeal for flexibility, praised the deal as a "pivotal first step" to confront climate change, "the defining challenge of our time."

[...] It comes after a year of stark warnings from Nobel-winning scientists, who say millions of people will be at risk of hunger, homelessness and disease by 2100 if temperatures keep rising at current rates.

The United States, the only major industrialised nation to reject the Kyoto treaty, reached a compromise with the European Union to avoid mentioning any figures as a target for slashing greenhouse gas emissions.

[...] Dobriansky was loudly booed by other delegations, and a US environmental activist representing Papua New Guinea said to rousing cheers: "If you're not willing to lead, please get out of the way."

After repeated verbal lashings, Dobriansky again took the microphone and said that Washington would "go forward and join consensus," to the cheers of the conference.

[...] "There is no question that we have opened a new phase in moving forward together," said senior White House aide James Connaughton.

Just so.

So you do not speak the English language unless it is full of slang?
Not that does know what he is talking about. He also says vegetarians are causing it by eating all the plants.

There's a difference between speaking properly and affecting the air of an 18th century gentleman.
