Here's a topic that never seems to die, but which hasn't been mentioned here recently (I don't think). For those who can handle a bit of controversy and who aren't afraid of making enemies, continue reading if you dare:

I'm going to leave this poll anonymous - no one needs to fear backlash over their answer to this recently renewed and now decades-old question: so here it is:

What do you think of carrot cake?

What is your response when someone unexpectedly trots one out at a party, or other kind of gathering? Do you enjoy it, but only occasionally? Do you just plain hate it? Are you the type of person who shows up with one? :p

Share your outrageous carrot cake stories here! :)

Carrot cake is a fantastic creation. Though a great cheesecake MAY beat a good carrot cake, any self-respecting carrot cake (because cakes obviously have self-respect) can beat an good cheesecake.

Yes I learned Socially Conservatism was wrong, because honestly I don't care what people do in their private lives. If they want to have sex with a man, man, a transsexual and a goat, then whatever. If they want to marry a man, man, a transsexual and a goat, I don't care either. Also, I never said Catholicism was wrong, I just think that it's silly that only 1/3rd of mankind will go to Heaven because apparently God changed the rules in the middle of the game and told everyone that you must accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior to get in. There forth damning 2/3rd of mankind before they're even born.

You're right. I mispoke.

But the point is you thought for yourself. You questioned your own political and religious beliefs and because you found them wanting, YOU CHANGED THEM. That is FAR MORE than most are EVER willing to do. That's what makes you special.

What do you think of carrot cake?

I don't know, I haven't eaten one in years. Last time I can remember eating a carrot cake was when [Bill] Clinton was in office. Does it still taste like carrot cake? or has time and the fates turned it into something horrible?

Then again, I'm probably not the best person to ask as I'm more of a pie person.

You can just scrape the "frosting" off, you know.

If it comes to that, leave out the sugar, oil and flour ... and just eat the damn carrot.

This is one opinion I'm sure that BunnySaurus Bugsii will fully endorse.

Although that is true, that has nothing to do with this. It's not really a fair comparison either. That's like comparing home made chocolate chip cookies to those out of a box in the supermarket.

Sounds like the people who make your cakes don't know how to make good icing. On the other hand, whenever icing is referred to as frosting, that's usually a bad sign. Tastiest icing I ever made used a large amount of chocolate and Bailey's Irish cream.

I really do prefer cake without any sort of non-cakey stuff on it, but if you must cover it, by all means use anything as close to pure chocolate as you can go. Which is to say, melt chocolate and use nothign else. Thank you. :]

I've had some that I'd classify as "edible." It can be, when done right, an effective way to hide the disgusting vegetation taste.

But I LIKE chocolate cake.

And cheese"cake" ought to be called pie. It's nothing like real cake.

if you must cover it, by all means use anything as close to pure chocolate as you can go. Which is to say, melt chocolate and use nothign else.I've done that by melting huge Hershey bars and pouring/spreading that over the top (but not with carrot cake). It IS delicious! Too bad most of my family like regular frosting. Granted, the regular stuff is easier to clean up.

At least we don't put heaps and heaps of frosting on the cake like the store-bought ones have on them...those are indeed nasty. The stores here usually put so much frosting on that there's more of that than there is of the cake! The fact that their "frosting" is made of cheapo commercial "cake factory" type ingredients makes it all the worse...

Any food can go anywhere in any meal, that doesn't stop you from spewing up anywhere as well.

Carrot cake is delicious, unless some sick freak decided to put raisins in it. Barf.

One thing a lot of people don't know, though, is that standard carrot cake is every bit as bad for you as cheesecake. I've seen lots of people choose carrot cake because it's got "carrot" in it, and it seems lighter or less unhealthy some how. It is not. Particularly since it is generally served in slightly larger slices than something like cheesecake or brownies.

Not that any of this should stop you from eating it! Just don't fool yourself into thinking it's better because it's got carrots or whatever.
