I have finals so I cant really do something fun like going out without feeling guilty. But it's so boring that I cant concentrate. So I'm wasting my time here. That is silly, isnt it?

So how do you study? Any tricks? How do you concentrate? Can you make studying fun? If yes, how?

I don't study.. nor go to class..but i manage to pass anyways ;)

I always leave essays until the last minute. There is no motivation like that of pressure. And I always pass.

I just do it.
Don't do it for too long though or you'll burn yourself out.

I have a few methods.

Adderall if it is really really bad (only had to do that once)
Read 10 pages, then do something else for 10 or 15 minutes, then read, etc.
Bribe myself. For example, I had a 20 page paper, a 7 page paper, and a quiz all due today or yesterday. I got them done last week by rewarding myself with a trip to Vermont for the weekend.
Or, you know, I drink, put off my work, and pass out, only to wake up and bomb a quiz/exam/not get a paper done.

They all work. *nod*

First, I never took classes I wasn't interested in. So I was always enjoying learning.
Second, I tutored the prettiest girls in class. So I always had something to hold my interest.
Third, drugs. Caffeine and nicotine. Makes the brain buzz.

The reason I didn't go was because they were rather boring. The only class I learned anything in was political theory, because I had never read many greek political thinkers' writings before. Oh well. :)

I don't study unless I have to memorize some arbitrary information, like dates or chemical forulae. For everything else I just look over my notes for about 5 minutes...5 minuted before the test.

Well, I did have a few econ classes, and was going to minor in it, until I realized I hate economics.

Procrastinate to the absolute minute. There's nothing to make a person efficient like last minute panic. :D

Well you can alternate your study,
mindmaps, use colour, draw pictures of your stuff.
One of the best ways is to talk over with someone else the things you're taking.
best to avoid games, or any other type of fun for study, but of course you should really enjoy yourself when you can if you want to, don't feel pressured to study constantly, because then you'l become good at studying afterward which is useful but not good for getting a girlfriend/boyfriend.
so mix up how you study, i've also heard that if you study with music on it's a bad idea, because you won't have music in your exam hall.
and have fun with your stuff.

I am big on flash cards and making up songs to remember facts.

For most classes I didn't study. When I learnt something, it usually stuck and I didn't need to go over it. For classes I wasn't particularly great at, I made notes and read them on the way to the exam. When it came to essays, the only way I could motivate myself was to leave everything until the last minute and do it all the night before. Hooray for caffeine!

I usually took out notes and looked them over, studying for an hour or so between subjects.

Note I do not condone straight seven hours of studying. Take a break inbetween each studying.

Note, also do the studying as early as possible. It helps.

personally i tend to study for 20 mins looking over books etc then take a five minute break
but its different for everyone
thats just what works for me

I start reading my notes a couple days before the exam, and then the night before its time I compose long, rambling lectures about the material while I do other things. For example, while showering Thursday night (before my Victorian Novels exam), I'll be saying something like:
"The Body Metaphor for Society is directly named in Davidoff's Class and Gender. It grew from the Victorian understanding of society as analogous to an organism in which each class was represented by a specific organ; for instance the bourgeois males were the brain, the tradesmen were the hands, the prostitutes were the genitalia/anus and the bourgeois women represented the heart. As the heart (or emotional seat of society), bourgeois women were expected to remain inside and serve as an anchor for the men who went forth to colonize the world, this is demonstrated in the "Angel at Home", a poem written by..." And it goes on for about 20 minutes.

The most important thing to remember, however, is that you should get at least 7 hours of sleep the night before the exam. All night study sessions don't help worth a damn, and tend to make you say stupid things.

Here's my method of studying:

1. Lay down
2. Put the blanket over my body
3. ???
4. Profit AND get an A on tomorrow's Exam

Seriously, I never study and I still get good grades. I've only bombed two quizzes this year (and by "bombed" I mean got a C).

Get into a study group and agree to meet them somewhere interesting. That way you can justify going out and if you don't study, it's their fault.

Depends on what you're studying. The subject matter dictates the strategy.

I used to take a dose of non-drowsy tylennol cold and then just read until I had to get myself to the test, but that doesn't work for everyone.

I actually enjoy most of my work, even if sometimes I dislike being pressured to write to a deadline.

I used to need deadlines. For weeks I would sit down and try to force myself to write while looking at an empty page. Then the night before it was due I would vomit 10 pages onto my keyboard, give it to my girlfriend to spell check it, then turn it in and get an A.

I later found out that that's a symptom of my ADD. I often wonder how much more sleep I'd have gotten if I had been diagnosed in school.

I prefer music playing. I enjoy waltz, but it can get a little distracting; Mozart is best.

Why the above help? They make me feel like an intelligent aristocrat who enjoys studying.

Edit: Sometimes I sit in a chair (while studying) placing bets on a virtual horse race, only looking-up when the race is over to place a new bet.

Well, it depends. Normally, I just do practice exams, see what I did wrong, and gradually work out anything left. For accounting, I'll work like hell to review everything and do the practice exams.

I study all the flaming time. I'm a chemical engineering major, which is another way of saying I have no life. If I were on campus right now, I'd be in study meltdown mode because of finals.
