So, I'm trying to find some new bands to listen to and in the past I've listen to bands like Smash Mouth, Korn, Good Charlotte, The Charlie Daniels Band, and Gorillaz, and I have one or two Marilyn Manson CD. So, I got tired of listening to all of those CD over and over again, so I need some help finding a new band to add to my collection. I'm thinking about getting something from Bare Naked Ladies, but still thinking about that. So, from the music guru here on NSG, what would you recommend?

I honestly recommend you get XM or Sirius. I set it on the say 90s and today channel and then put the player on pause. After i build up an hour on my receiver i sorta fastforward/scan thru all the songs. Then just que up the next hour. When i find a title i like i just write it down and get a list and err buy it from Itunes. After a few days of this on the 90s station and things get repetative then i just change the channel to the 80s section then 70s 60s etc rinse and repeat.

Megadeth? I don't know about their latest United Abominations, but the earlier angstier anti Bush Sr. albums was fun to listen to.
Flaming Lips? Naaaaah, probably better to listen to Kasabian.
Bare Naked Ladies is fun, but sometimes I prefer Dave Matthews Band.
...or... you could listen to Go! Team till your ears bleed with enthusiasm that they instill.
I like Rihanna though, 'ella 'ella 'ella.

Your taste in music is fairly standard (standard isn't bad). I'd just go with the more popular 'alternative' bands for now, like
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Gin Blossoms, R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Everclear, and Smashing Pumpkins (the last one has been said before, but merits repeating).
Local H:fluffle: excellent choice!

The only thing I can recomend along those lines is Dethklok, find them on itunes, or at your local store, unless they ran out of CD's already. I liked the show Metalocalypse so much, I bought their first CD, The Dethalbum, I like the first track, Murmaider, alot. Their animated like The Gorillaz, and will tour in much the same way, or so says their creator.

It's more that the newer popular bands generally aren't any good.

Fuck the Prophets! Listen to Funeral for a Friend, Kids in Glass Houses and the Blackout!:D
Welsh bands who are not only good, but not immensely punchable. Whoever suggested Plain White T's has appalling taste. They may not be consistent to "Hey there Delilah" in their other works, but this doesn't make them any better. Just a different type of appalling.
I'd suggest Brand New, because "The Devil and God..." is simply staggeringly good, and "Deja Entendu" is a masterpiece. Nightmare of You are also quality, of indy made by a band comrpising an ex-Movielife member is your thing. Which it should be, of course.
Scenes from a Movie are fairly cool, if only because their lyrics allow them to transcend the general homogenous banality of their contemporaries, and Saosin are amazing.

Today's generation rejects being another brick in the wall differently.
Plus, I think MTV has managed to shorten attention spans of today's music audience so that they can't comprehend the type grandiose pyschadelic rock that Pink Floyd's famous for.
But then again, if you like A Perfect Circle, you probably could enjoy PF.

Dammit everyone here listens to the same music. Rock is dead guys, deal with it. Listening to oldschool rock might be worth it but in todays world all the talent has left for newer and more interesting styles. Dump postmodern rock, its time to enjoy the novelties.
Like acid jazz : parov stelar, jamiroquai, mr scruff
or Trip Hop : Morcheeba, Thievery Corporation
or Electrohouse : Booka Shade, Vitalic
and then there's psytrance, drum n bass, ambient, house, french touch, fusion, hardtek, hardcore, experimental hip hop, psychedelic folk, dub, ragga, etc...

Their first album was alright, but it doesn't change the fact that "rooftops" and all that psuedo-emo crap on "Liberation Transmission" are unforgiveable. It isn't even good.
Black Sabbath, preferably the Ozzy years. They gave us Iron Man, War Pigs, Paranoid, Black Sabbath, NIB, etc.
Led Zeppelin. Greatest band that ever existed. Memorable songs include Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir. They broke up in 1980 after their drummer got drunk and drowned in his vomit. Truly, Bonham was the greatest drummer of all time. Never produced a bad or "merely good" song. Never.
Metallica. Anyone who hasn't heard Metallica is a person who hasn't truly experienced heavy/thrash metal.
Pink Floyd. Two words: pure awesomeness.

They sold well because they played well. If it was just overhype, they wouldn't be so popular right now. To get a ticket to see them in concert in the recent concert in London, you had to win a lottery. a million people. twenty-thousand seats.
They were the best. I have the cd-box set contianing all their albums. Ten cds and not one bad song.
I'm sure you like them a lot. I think they're okay, but I'm not going to goop all over them any time soon. Some of their songs I like very much. Others just fail to move me.
Not to denigrate their abilities... but being popular - as I already pointed out - has little or nothing to do with being good. I'm not dissing their virtuosity, but I doubt I'd go as far as to say they were the 'best' - certainly not in such openended terms.
well i'm rather fond of numina and rogue elements, but then you've got to understand tecno-ambient and 'berlin school, is pretty much what i'm into.

Vernian Process (http://www.post-punk.com/vernianprocess.html)
Machinae Supremacy (www.machinaesupremacy.com)
A varying range, but generally very good.
Of course, there's loads of other good stuff, but you might not have heard of these.

My husband hates my taste in music. With that in mind, here is a small sample of a few bands I like that I would recommend:
- Kraftwerk
- Tool
- Medieval Baebes
- Arcade Fire
- Irish Rovers
- Rush
They belong to different genres. And my pick from this list? Rush.
All the world's a stage.

I also like zombie movies (Shawn of the Dead included), Grindhouse, Rob Zombie movies while enjoying a Chianti ^_^
Flaming Lips does have it's moments, but it sure can't beat the repeatability of Kasabian, which is like you said about KFC and Raymond Blanc, you don't need to savor junk, HA!
You appear to be confusing repeatability with repetitiveness...
Their first album was alright, but it doesn't change the fact that "rooftops" and all that psuedo-emo crap on "Liberation Transmission" are unforgiveable. It isn't even good.
Their first album is excellent, as a debut. I choose to ignore pretty much everything they did after that. There are loads of bands who have made one really good album followed by a crock o' shite - doesn't mean you can't praise them for the one good album.

Uh no, repeatability is a plus factor for my repetitive sounds. Just like you can loop a dance beat over and over again for a period of time,... yet if I do the same to the sounds of Vengaboy, it makes me break out in tears.... of blood.

Yeah... the problem is, if it sends me the opposite way, and I'm the sort of person alway on the lookout for new music... it might turn out to be the perfect anti-ad for whoever you were championing.
Just saying. Playfully.

Looping a dance beat over and over doesn't necessarily make it any good. Kasabian are just another mediocre laddish indie/rock band with an attitude problem. The Flaming Lips are a multi-million record selling commercial and critical success with one of the best live shows in the business. More to the point, they're actually quite good. Unlike a certain Leicester band beginning with K.
