Someone explain something to me please.

A corperation loses a court case. It is ordered to pay back pay and offer people it fired their jobs back.

They are given 14 days to do this, but they have 30 days to appeal.

How the hell does that work? Do they really have 44 days? what?

(btw this is in referance to Massy Coal....They have appealed, but it will take about 7 years before anything is done, so now they apparently have 7 years and 44 days. That is if they don't pay off the next judge....)

I guess if they get their appeal in before the 14 day limit?

They could appeal after they have paid, and if they won or had the amount they were ordered to pay reduced, the person they paid would have to pay them back the appropriate amount.

Readers should note that this is assumption and not based on any kind of legal knowledge.

I cast Summon Lawyer

Hell they probably filed it the second they lost, but it was odd that they had to comply in 14 days but could appeal within 30.

Edit: I don't think you spell worked.....I think you cast "Death" rather than "Summon Lawyer"

If the laws are sensible, then they have 30 days to appeal, and if they don't (or the appeals lose) they have to pay full penalties for not meeting the 14-day limit (including the time spent while the appeals are in court).

Generally, the court decision stands until a superior court overrules it. So, they must do as the court says. For now.
