Winter Sports

It seems that this may be one of the few topics I've never seen covered around here.

What winter sports do you partake in? I'm talking things like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, hockey, and we'll include sledding.
For skiiers and boarders, what kinda gear do you use? Where do you like to go? Boarders, what kind do you do?

I grew up on skis...literally as soon as I could stand, my parents had me on them. About 6 or 7 years back, I swapped over to snowboarding. While I love both, I have more fun on the board, and am finally getting to the point that I don't suck horribly.

I just got a new board too, which I am pumped about...a Burton Royale with Burton Mission bindings...great board. It handles powder well, and rides great overall. Got to take it out up at Mount Snow in Vermont...amazing conditions, and was in my friends ski on/ski off condo. Sore as fuck today (although, that may be from the massive amounts of drunken wrestling), but well worth it. Favorite place to go would still be Killington (also in Vermont), but I've yet to make it out west

So what about you?

When it actually does snow in North Carolina and when we actually have the roads iced over, I like to go sledding. We have a big hill next to my house so it's a lot of fun.

Inline Hockey, because despite years of the mayor talking about it we STILL DON'T HAVE AN ICE RINK. Screw Prendergast.

I have a sled, but I live in Oklahoma now so it's pretty useless (plains state and all).

uh....we have sleetball fights? (it's kinda like a snowball fight, but we don't get much snow here)

also.....I am a world champion sliding in the ice and falling on my ass girl! (already did it twice today!)

I'm a skier, primarily. Sledding I wouldn't call so much a sport as a pastime ( a really fun one though).

Ice Hockey. The first step back onto the ice at the beginning of a season is an orgasm.

Reason number one why I could never live south of Pennsylvania...I need snow.

uh....we have sleetball fights? (it's kinda like a snowball fight, but we don't get much snow here) sounds...painful...haha

also.....I am a world champion sliding in the ice and falling on my ass girl! (already did it twice today!)I did that too...carrying an armful of firewood, none the less

And I put sledding because yesterday, when I said it wasn't a sport, I got tackled into a snowbank

There really is nothing better than the start of a new season...I get the same feeling with the first Bruins game, and even more so with boarding...nothing is better than suiting up and getting all ready, then hitting the first trail of the year

I'd like to go skiing this year, but it seems my current winter sport is keeping my balance on the sidewalks because no one thinks it's logical to actually use the fucking rock salt.

You should glue rock salt to the bottom of your shoes.

Be the solution :)

Sounds like a good time.

You'd probably love Killington and the Vermont resorts for photography...Tons of amazing views. Maybe I'll bring a camera next time I go

Not a bad idea...I was thinking more "nails through the foot"

I wonder if I could talk my brother (you) into taking me up there when I'm on break..

I used to go sledding, but not anymore.
Nowdays I only participate in snow-walking.

a sport is either a genetic mutation or a has been drip under pressure.

i do like the look of snow however. how it burries the trash and makes the countryside look magical: and i've done a good bit of tromping arround on bearpaws.

(and the bears didn't even mind. for those who don't know, the bearpaws i'm refuring to, are a style of snow shoes, without that goofy fishtail looking stick poking out the back of them to stumble over)

I'd play ice hockey if it was legal to check your opponents. Since you can't in women's hockey, I watch and reserve the right to scream at my TV.

My favorite winter sport is sitting inside by the fireplace with hot cocoa and watching the snow fall outside.

It doesn't really snow regularly around here, but a lot of sports like football, rugby and (field) hockey continue regardless of the cold and potential snow. I play hockey, but only during termtime. Now I could go play for my old club when I'm back home, but I really can't be arsed to go out and get frozen right now; maybe I'll play in Easter. I play badminton year round, and I've never been skiing properly.

And this. More likely rain and/or dark clouds with a cup of tea, but near enough.

Shred 'Til Death. STDs. Not looking so good this year though. My new board, Gnu Altered Genetics (http://gnu.com/snowboards/alteredG.html) is still on order and in 5 days I'm heading to the mountains which have no snow yet.... Life sucks.

So what about you?

I ski on K2 Apache Recons, and love them. My favorite place to go in the east is Sugarbush,VT. I suggest you try it out, it has way better terrain than Killington, and has half the crowds. Plus its only about 50 minutes North of Killington, and Sugarbush boasts 111 trails, spread over two mountains.

...I want that board.
What mountain are you hitting? No snow making capabilities? I know up here I was thinking it would be shit, and it was some of the best conditions I've seen in years

50 minutes farther north means I have to be up around 3 or 4 in the morning in order to get up there, sadly. I did like it while I was there, sadly, that extra hour of sleep is usually much needed

As for Killington, if you stick to Bear and Killington peaks, you can easily avoid most of the crowds (they tend to stay more towards Snowshed and Rams Head). Only problem there is my swap from skiing to snowboarding...Bear is almost all black diamonds...not the best to learn on.

And K2 skis are great. Loved them when I used them, tho I usually went with Rossignols
