## Ahmadinejad, the first Iranian president ever to take part in a Gulf summit.

"What we care for in the GCC is finding solutions that enhance security and stability ... and believe in dialogue as a way to solve the crisis," between the West and Iran, he said.

"We are not for the military confrontation option," said Attiyah.

Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Hamed bin Jassem al-Thani went further, calling on Washington to engage Tehran in dialogue to reach a solution.

"Direct talks do not mean agreeing (from the start) with the other party," he told conference delegates on Saturday, among them US Defence Secretary Robert Gates.

Qatar, one of the key US-allies in the region, hosts the US army's Central Command which directed the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

But in a surprising move, it invited Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend a GCC annual summit on Monday, making him the first Iranian president to take part in a Gulf leaders summit.

I thought the Iranians had changed their minds at the last minute and decided not to attend. Looks like someone did a flip flop and changed their minds for a third time.

Iran, China finalise two billion dollar oil contract
Sun Dec 9, 4:57 PM ET
TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran and China's Sinopec on Sunday signed a two billion dollar contract to develop a major Iranian oil field, a crucial deal for the Iranian energy industry at a time of mounting international pressure.

The signing came at a time when the United States has been pressuring European and Asian firms, including oil majors, to cut their business ties with Iran to exert pressure on the Islamic republic in the nuclear crisis.

"The signing shows that there is no lack of investment in Iran and we are solidifying our economic relations with China more," said Nozari.

"The second message is that if other countries are willing to invest in the big oil and gas fields of Iran they should not lose the opportunity," he added.

At the end of the day.. the clear winers of these escalations started when Bush called Iran part of the Axis-of-evil.. are China and Russia.
The big loser here is probably Germany (and France to a lesser degree).. losing shares -of business- in Iran and losing goodwill points (and influence) across the Muslim world.

I am trying to say that the gulf in Gulf Cooperation Council refers to this place

http://www.gl.iit.edu/govdocs/maps/Persian%20Gulf%20Region.gif

which is called the Persian gulf by Iran and the Arabian gulf by Arabs and no "Sinus Arabicus" or any other nasal allergy is found there.

Is that a rhetorical question? How about when Saddam bombed and invaded Kuwait in August 1990? I could name others but I already know you'll dismiss them.

Here goes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperation_Council_for_the_Arab_States_of_the_Gulf
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a trade bloc involving the six Arab states of the Persian Gulf

Members are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - out of which only KSA is bordering "what today is called the Red Sea".

There is contention between Arabs and Iranians as to what is the name of that gulf - Persian or Arabian.

Disregarding the fact that Iraq did not receive US support until later in the war, and even then it was a tiny fraction of the overall support that it received...we could also talk about Yemen-Saudi clashes, Syria-Lebanon, the Yom Kippur War, Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, and subsequent bombardment of neighboring countries with Scud missiles...and on and on and on.
