I'm sorry to say that I grew up in Fresno.
In any case, in keeping with the slight rash of religious references on NSG at the moment, I give you the following:

Wow, dude. I'm sorry. That's one of my least favorite places on earth.

Heh do I score extra for having not only one of the very first woman Anglican vicars, who is also a lesbian who lives with her woman decan special 'friend', as one of my mates?

Farmland =/= dairyland. The San Joaquin Valley is produce, produce and more produce, and some of the best land for it on the planet. I spent ages 5 through 9 in Fresno (1975-1979), and maybe I was warped, but I rather enjoyed it. I lived on North Meridian and Stuart steets close to the Fresno State campus, and went to Vinland and Eaton elementary schools. I have fond memories of trips to Shaver Lake and Friant Dam, Millerton Lake and places that don't seem to exist anymore like the dessert spectacle known as Farrell's.
I had a good time there.

It was a good place ... once. It combined the best of small town and big city, then the big city took over and it became the worst of big city. I grew up on West Normal and went to Fremont Elementary, Hamiltion Jr. High, Fresno High, Fresno City College and Fresno State College. I remember the County Fair .. magical.
