Peckerhead. One of my cats is, as such, a peckerhead. It was originally "Oscar", but it's like "stupid is as stupid does" :p
The other cat, "Lucky", ISN'T very lucky, but is very fat, so it now goes as "Fat".
Other cat names are the misspelled words i find in some of the spam i receive.

My brother named our pure-black cat Merlin when he was five years old. It's still the most creative cat name I've ever heard of -- though his obession with "The Sword in the Stone" played a large role.

Our cats are named Tigger, Pussyfoot, CC and Samulon. These are, obviously, the best cat names, because they are our cats' names.

However, I did dearly love the cat of my student days, Fidel Cattro. Her philosophy of life was that goods went from me, according to my labour, to her, according to her needs.

Samulon was a stray who was originally going to be named Samuel Vimes, after the Discworld character. We got used to calling "Samuel" at mealtimes, so when she presented us with eight reasons why she should not be called "Samuel", we changed it to Samulon because of "Go away, Nebulon, no-one likes your style!" in Homestar Runner.

My Siamese is named Amelia, I named her after Amelia Earhart. I also had a Siamese before Amelia named Sara. Then before Sarah was Sam (male) and Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime ran away and apparently everyone was happy he did because he wasn't that good of a cat.

My dad hated Sara, mainly because she was a talker, who talked, and talked, and talked, and talked. She was also the "Queen" of the house, he loves Amelia though, mainly because she is a quiet cat who is sweet and playful and is a joy to be around.

I've had numerous cats. Two of which are currently identifiable as mine. One is Fantasia, the other is Q.

...The last one fits the bill perfectly.

Personally I've always found "I'm a Putrid Fuzz Muffin" to be a funny cat name, but it'd probably be funnier on a race horse.

Our oldest cat, Sagira, was named by my sister. It means "Little one." (I think.)

The next cat, Sokkwi, was also named by my sister. It means "Little fool."

Our newest cat, obtained just a couple days ago is named Neela, probably after the E.R. character. (My mom chose that one.)

This thread inspired me to look up a childhood cat's name. My mom named her with the intent to keep giving the cats French names for some reason...She named her after a cartoon character she had seen but I never knew what it was.

Her name was Mewsette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_Purr-ee). Kind of cool, actually...

Of course our Mewsette was a calico and not a priss by a long shot...

I have several cats - Bonnie and Clyde, Emma and Persephone the Queen of Hell, the Bi-Polar Prozac Cat aka Bitch Kitty the Saber-Toothed House Cat. The last has mellowed somewhat as she has stopped trying to destroy the world and is, at present concentrating on me and my family.

I currently have two cats, yet I did not name either.

The first is named Tinkerballs. We usually call it Tink, (S)Tinker(s), asshole (that one is mostly me). It will answer to anything. It is almost like a dog.

The other is named Purrfect. It also answers to Fat Cat.

My cat's called JellyBelly.
Reason behind this is I'd just bought a big sack of JellyBelly Jellybeans before heading into the SPCA for the umpteenth time in search of the perfect cat.
And this time I finally found her. Her name was 'Jelly''d just been spayed (thus a soft pink flabby belly showing), along with the Jellybeans in my bag, I just had to rename her JellyBelly.

At the moment, I have two cats at home. The fat, malevolent old one is called Smudge (idiot brother sees smudge on nose and refuses to call it anything else). The younger cat is called Matilda, or, rather, Tilly. She's simply the best pet ever; like prozac, but prozac doesn't stalk birds and pounce into the conservatory window.:D

Well, not hot on the best names for cats, but ours is called Dibbles. Well, he will be when he fattens out and gets bigger. But for now he's "Dibblet", as in, not quite a Dibbles yet. Luckily, as he attempts to follow me to work, he answers to "Cat", "Fucking Cat", and "if you shed all over my coat again I'm gonna shave you bald" (imagine the looks you'll get standing at the bus stop with a white and ginger kitten at your feet and you'll understand somewhat. Also, cashmere loves fur, which is bad news for my coat).

He tends to fight a lot with the dog, which is awesome, as this cat takes her on with no fear whatsoever, and pulls off some truly awe-inspiring acrobatics to be able to get on her back and bite her ears.

I don't know about whoever you were responding to, but if I had a female kitty, I would probably name it after you: Katganistan.

(*repeats "Katganistan" 5x with differing inflections*)

Yeah. Katganistan sounds like a good name for a female cat.

For a male kitty, OTOH, I would probably go with "Whiskers" or "Buster". In fact, my parents HAVE a cat named Buster.

We've had a few cats over the years...
Currently, there's Ashes, Salem, and Tar Pit. All 3 are black cats, and the last one was a joke my sister made that just kinda stuck.

Hee, yes, just one, and she's a calico named Kat.
No one in the house could agree what to call her -- some names that were tried but didn't stick were "Sunshine", "Freckles", "Spot" and "Purr". (As in, she refused to answer to any of 'em.)

Apparently, "Cat, come get your food," "Cat, get off the sofa," and "Cat, c'mere," got her attention more than all the rest, so it stuck and I changed the C to a K so people would realize it took at least ten seconds to name her. ;)

So far 2 ex cats and 1 current cat

Neemar (came with the house, the joke being the house was free but the cat cost £45 000) siamese chocolate tabby
Boris yeltsin the cat, (free to a good home) french blue, psychotic, when bored would go and fight next doors dog and win, then go beat up Neemar, who having none of it would fight back.

Currently its Sir Arthur Wellesley the cat, black short hair... came into my garden one day looking for a new home(noone responded to the ads I placed :( )..... so I cut his b***s off  and ID chipped him :) and he's kinda hung around

PS he has a cute way of chewing mice he catches..... <scrunch><crunch><scrunch><crunch>....<BURP!>

I had a cat named Pogo growing up, so named because, as a kitten, she would only move by jumping. She was pretty much the most insane cat I had ever seen...

...until I got my Siamese. Rocco, whose name nor appearance do him the least bit of justice, has to be seen to be believed. He's easily more than 20 pounds - all muscle. Yet he can leap a baby gate at the top of the stairs. He's best friends with the dog, and he often mistakes people's feet underneath the covers for little animals, with amusing but painful results.

If you name a cat Pogo, just make sure the name fits in some way.

redwulf's parents had a formerly (barely formerly) feral cat named Wild Thing. She would run down the hallway at top speed, bounce of redwulf's bedroom door, then scratch and meow piteously for a bit. Then she'd repeat the process. All fucking night. (redwulf had a water bed, an endless source of fascination for most cats). I renamed her Nuisance, and it stuck.

Our current cats are named Mikaido and Stranger. We tried to rename Stranger, a stray who literally walked into our life one recent fall night. I wanted Mouthy Drama Queen, of Bindi (because she has a spot of white fur almost directly between her eyes), but she only answers to Stranger now.

My mother once had a cat called Skimbles (after the song "Skimbleshanks the railway cat", I kid you not), and I once had a cat named Jess (she was named that when I got her). My sister (still!) has a cat named Buster, which was also named that upon acquisition.

I can't have pets in the flat I'm in (and it's kinda nice not to deal with cat hair everywhere), but when I get a new cat it will be named either Ivan or Svetlana (particularly if it's a Russian Blue) or Akhenaten or Nefertiti (particularly if it's Siamese, although I'm not fond of Siamese so that's unlikely).

Mainly I just want a great big fluffy thing.

T.S. Eliot said it best in his poem, The Naming of Cats:

The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.

There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.

But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.

But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:

His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

Mixie was a tortie who got caught on an unsecured fishhook one summer, earning her the nickname 'Catfish.' Mixie's sister was a grey tabby named Sphinx, because it sounded cool.

Toni was already named when she adopted us. She belonged to the neighbours, but hated other cats, so she just kept wandering over until we kept her. She was a siamese who lived well into her 20's.

The next cat that we took in was Saavik. Trekkies will recognize the name, and those who read the books will understand a bit more. She's a pretty calico girl with one fang missing.

Poutine was the first cat we adopted that wasn't found near my parent's house. He was a longhaired orange tabby. Mom just liked the word 'poutine'.

Skunk was named before my mom got him, but it stuck. I call him Skunkels because I have a screw loose, and so does he.

Little Girl is the latest addition to my parent's house. He was a stray that someone assumed was a girl, so he was nicknamed appropriately. The name stuck for the lulz.
