What's the worst parking-lot damage you've sustained?

Today I decided to go shopping at Mills Fleet Farm, also known as "the man's mall." I parked my PT Cruiser in the lot and went inside to buy a Christmas present for my dad. I was in the store for about an hour and a half. It was busy, and I knew a lot of cars would be rolling through the parking lot. One of them rolled into me.
To make a very long story short, the front right panel by the headlight is cracked and there's a mess of black paint on my fender and along the panel near the crack. I'm going to have to replace the panel, call the insurance agent, and probably file a police report for the insurance company (it's not like we're going to find the guy). I think I sustained more than $1000 in damage.
I love my little car. I got it gently used in August and have done my best to baby it since. I feel so bad that this happened to it. :(
The worst part is he didn't leave a note with a name, number, and insurance information on my windshield. All I can do is selfishly hope that his car is in worse shape than mine.
So, NSG, what's the worst parking lot damage you've sustained? After all, misery loves company.

I got a decent story. This one happened a while back. Had parked in a parking lot for a meeting with work. Not a place I normally went but they had your typical parking on the side of the street. It wasn't parallel parking but straight in so every ones ass was hanging out to the street. The street was a quiet one that ended at a animal shelter. A young lady was driving toward the animal shelter with a cat she was dropping off. Apparently the cat was not in a cage and was in the front seat with her. While she was driving down the road where everyone was parked the cat decided to freak out and piss all over her and claw her. She then proceeded to loose control of the car and she ran into about 5 cars. Two of the cars were totalled and mine suffered a rear corner hit.

A PT Cruiser is a little car?
Anyway, I've reversed into a car in a huge car park that had three cars in it (including mine).
I also had a guy in a very expensive Mercedes reverse into me outside a supermarket.
Both were minor damage. Both times were sorted without getting insurance companies involved.

Around here, comparatively. A lot of people drive SUVs and pickups because they can handle the snow and ice better.

Sept. 2006
Cost: ~$7750 (auto shop / rental car)
My Cost: $250 (the party at fault paid my insurance premium)
A diseased tree fell on my car while I was at work (I took the bus that day). I came home and the tree was gone and the roof on my Mustang was crushed.
My apartment complex left no note, didn't contact me. Nothing. They completely removed the tree, apparently climbing on my car to cut away the pieces (so my neighbors told me).
My other car had about $3500 in damages when the 75+ year old man (who also had a pedophile living with him -- the pedophile was arrested after sexually inappropriate conduct with multiple girls in the complex) hit my car for the SECOND time. The old man didn't leave a note, even though after the last time he hit my car, we talked about how it is illegal to hit & run. I had to send the local police on him, who found my car's paint on his entire front end, and his car's paint wedged 6 feet along the side of my non-operational car. We each had assigned spaces and my non-operational car clearly hadn't been moved in years.
Sorry to hear about your accident. I'll pass along what everybody reminded me after all three of my parking lot incidents in the past 2 years: Aren't you glad you have insurance? :)
I have USAA and they are absolutely wonderful.

I don't understand how these people get their license renewed and get insurance etc. I drive in Florida sometimes and I would notice some crazy driving ...not speeding, but you know the no-look turns...the wandering across lanes etc) and when I pass them by I would see this really really ancient person behind the car. More than speeding youngsters in flashy cars, I am more afraid of old drivers nowadays.

A PT Cruiser is a cracker jack car in the US.

I use my car in NYC quite a bit, so it gets bashed all the time. (Which is why I won't drop more than $35-40k on anything).
In the past year I've had:
The left passenger side door dented.
The driver's side wing mirror hit so fast it smashed.
Some fucker smashed the rear windshield.
And more little knicks and scrapes around the bumpers than I can count.
You really just have to live with it.

Almost forgot this one. Was in Hawaii a couple years back renting a condo. We had the rental car out front at the end of the lot. Apparently everyone had left for work or sightseeing that morning. Our car was the only one on that side of the lot. The parking lot was on a hill and they had the green garbage dumpsters on the top of the hill. A couple maintenance guys were moving the bins around and walked off. Well one of the large bins rolled all the way down the hill and right into the side of this rental vehicle. Wasted a day of vacation trying to get it sorted out.

I was parked at a Wal-Mart, and someone pulled in behind me. He pulled over the line, and hit the back end of me (not hard, though). The problem came from the fact that my truck has a trailer hitch on the back, which did quick the number on this guy's Honda. OTOH, my truck wasn't badly damaged, and it was sorted out pretty quickly.

As I don't own a car yet, none.
This pointless post was brought to you by the number 1 and the letter e.
A guy racing in a black Mitsubishi Eclipse slammed into my side coming from behind a Pathmark.
My car sustained $6,000 in damage.
Asshole.
And yes a PT Cruiser is quite a small car.

The problem is, if you take away their license, then they can't have insurance and will hit people and cause so much damage that they'll just declare bankruptcy. :(
I wanted him to maintain insurance, because one of these days he will kill some kid playing in the street. He really is a horrid driver. But I insisted that the repairs on my car be done via insurance. There is no doubt that his rates have got to be astronomical, and sadly at some point, he'll stop paying.
After the accident with my car, he had a 25 year old move in with him. Perhaps the kid was his grandson ... or could have been paying rent. Don't know. But my guess is that he was starting to the feel the pinch.
The really sad thing, the town I live in, has a really AWESOME public transit system through the university / school year. Oct-Jun there are hourly buses that would go everywhere in town that stopped right outside our apartment complex. The buses are cheap or free for senior citizens. While there are reasons he may have wanted to drive, getting milk and peanut butter sure isn't one.

Cars burn in parking lots all the time. They are almost always totaled.

I scraped the door of the 1992 Camry on a pillar in a parking garage. We haven't got that fixed; I don't think the car's worth getting that fixed. The door would have to be replaced, which would have a hefty price tag.
