Ok, I have to confess, I'm a bit of a strategy game nerd. I love freeciv, Triplea, Wesnoth, and Freecol. Especially freeciv. Oh man, I spend hours playing that...

But anyway, does any one here know of any good strategy games? Particularly ones that work for Mac OSX?

The best...board game.

For a Mac strategy game let me recommend the Midway series, by David Riggle.

If you're into historical grand strategy games, I recommend the Europa Universalis series. EUII was great, and apparently EUIII is now out for OS X (which I did not know until just now ).

IMHO... the best and simplest game out there is...

Spaceward HO! (http://www3.sympatico.ca/maury/games/space/spaceward_ho.html)

fast, simple and fun!

Has that been Carbonized?

if you mean what I think you mean...

according to wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaceward_Ho!)
Version 5 is available for Mac OS (where it is Carbonized to be Mac OS X native) and Palm OS. Version 4 is also available for Windows and version 2 for Amiga.

I play the windows version. and I use the "polite Cough" as one of my window's sounds. :D

Okay, I'll give it a shot.
All my old Classic games are now unplayable. :(. (Except Starcraft, which is all anyone really needs).

Hasn't Apple decided to, you know, kill Carbon?

Nope. Carbon (C++ equivalent to Cocoa) is still used in OS X apps, although it's rare. Mostly it's handy for natively supporting Classic apps, which otherwise wouldn't run in OS 10.5.

Edit: Actually, I think that iTunes is Carbon.

Well, Classic is dead. Which is kind of a shame although not really.
Intel Macs never supported it anyway.

WinSPMBT and WinSPWW2 are good, dunno if they run on a Mac, mind. Both are free full downloads from Shrapnel Games.

Yes, and it appears the did not fuck it up too badly. Official release date is "not in 2007"...

Hmm, so it would seem. It will still work, though.

Yes… not too badly.

Maybe the Carbonized Classic will need to be… Cocoa-ized?

Maybe the Carbonized Classic will need to be… Cocoa-ized?I think Apple wants Carbon to die all together for Cocoa. Cocoa can do almost anything that Carbon can (now that Classic is dead). If Apple can add the missing functionality to Cocoa, they would be much better off. It would be much easier to maintain one code base, than to maintain two.

Not only that, but Carbon is far more difficult to use than Cocoa.

I have a few Mac Classic games (when I had a Mac LCII), I guess I can bin them now since no new Mac I can buy will play them.

(I have three Windows XP machines in the house)
