Nah the 70s is in the corner crying with ripped clothes and it's feeling dirty right now.

I was listening about this movie on the radio, and they actually talked about the fact that in one of the scene, one of the little rats, I mean chipmunks did the whole "Chicka bow wow" line, and they were debating to see if that was appropriate for a kids movie, what do you guys think?

Personally I don't think kids will know what it means, and if they do, then they got some crappy and probably disturbed parents.

Actually, Alvin and the Chipmunks is a rehash from the 1950s and '60s, not the 1980s. What you remember from the 80s was but a stale imitation of the original. [begin old coot mode while wagging finger] You kids now a days have such short attention spans. [exit old coot mode] :p

For a reason known only to hermits in the Sahara, I decided to go to "Planet UV" on campus last night. Essentially, this entailed aspiring nu-rave kids dressing in bright colours, putting lurid paint on themselves, wearing glosticks and considering themselves "hardcore" for dancing like a bellend to the Klaxons, CSS and LCD Soundsystem. The worst of them sported those insufferable "Made in the 80's"/"Rock off, Rave on"/"Drop beats, not bombs" slogan t-shirts, and still looked bemused as yours truly arrived in a Smiths t-shirt, as if I was somehow diluting their 80's fest.

All things considered, I'd say the 80's have been well and truly culturally raped.

ah, but do you really think they are trying to attract the kids from the 50's or 60's?

Their primary target is children of this decade. However, they most likely want to appeal to the nostalgic feelings of their parents (who remember the second incarnation in the '80s) and grandparents (who remember the original) in an effort to get as wide an audience as possible. "Fun for the whole family" and such.

I'd say the 1930's and 1940's would probably qualify as worse. The 1340's weren't too nice in Europe either, what with the Black Death and all.

The 80's may not have been a repition of the 1960's, but I do feel so much of contemporary disdain for the 1980's, in Britain at least, is the result of uninformed dogmatic anti-Thatcherism.

hmm.... admittedly, I'm horrfically biased dealing with a decade in which the Smiths, the Jesus and Mary Chain and New Order played, and being in some form of platonic love with Morrissey, but I'd say the alternative legacy of the 80's counteracts the abysmal quality of popular music.
