Tomorrow, I'm going up to my Sister-in-law's for a bake fest where we all bake cookies for christmas (I get to eat the mistakes!) :p

so we bring our own collection of recipes, ingredients, and whatnot.

Being the NS Generalite that I am... what's your favorite cookie and post your favorite Cookie Recipe here.

(Psst... anyone got any good Peppermint Cookie recipe that is easy and great tasting?)

I'd say my fav. would be the chocolate chip ones they sell at costco.
No recipies from me, as the last time I tired to cook, I some how set the oven to "clean"

Sounds like fun.
Remember: It isn't cooking until something has caught fire.

I like the chocolate chip cookie recipe on the back of the Nestle's Semi-Sweet chocolate chip package. I bake it as a bar cookie instead of a drop cookie.

thats just sad.

if you havent had cookies made from scratch with the best ingredients (instead of the crap they use in industrial cookies) you are really missing out.

you should give your mother a ration of shit over this.

then you should make your own. its not particularly hard.

We're making pizzelles right now at my house. I think we're doing chocolate drop cookies this evening.
We do about twenty different kinds of cookies each holiday season, but pizzelles are probably my favorite (today, anyway).

Speaking of Hershey's Kisses, I found one with bits of Peppermit candy stuck inside. Giving it a Candy Cane flavor... anyone think that would work for Cookies?

they certainly would if you did what smunkee suggested and press one into the center of a cookie fresh out of the oven.

since they arent part of the baking chemistry, they will do as well as the milk chocolate kind.

... I was thinking of crushed or nearly powdered candy cane mixed in the cookie dough... kinda like those incorporating corn flakes.

SEVEN LAYER MAGIC COOKIE BARS
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 pkg. (6 oz.) butterscotch chips
1 1/3 c. flaked coconut
1 c. chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 degrees for glass dish). In a 13 x 9 inch baking pan melt butter in oven. Sprinkle crumbs over it. Mix together and press into pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumbs. Top evenly with remaining ingredients. Press down firmly. Bake 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool before cutting.

I can feel myself getting fatter just thinking about them.

if you make it too fine it would be like adding extra sugar.

in general, such things are additions. they dont have any effect on the baking chemistry. the only question is how well it would fit with the cookie flavor. and would the crushed candy be too sharp or would it melt to a hard unappealing lump. coarsely chopping the chocolate peppermint kisses would probably work every well.

Good point.

one cookie recipe I found called for peppermint extract to be mixed with melted chocolate... guess I'll stick to that then.

one cookie recipe I found called for peppermint extract to be mixed with melted chocolate... guess I'll stick to that then.

Ingredients

* 1 1/4 c crushed peppermints
* 1 1/3 c sugar, divided
* 3/4 c butter
* 2 eggs
* 1 tsp peppermint extract
* 3/4 tsp vanilla
* 2 1/2 c flour
* 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

Grind peppermint candies in
# 1/3 c. sugar
until powdery with a few larger chunks of candies. This is best done with a food processor.

Mix flour and salt in a small bowl. Mix butter, eggs, and remaining
# 1 c. sugar
together in a separate, larger bowl. Add vanilla and peppermint extracts.

Add flour mixture in 3 parts to sugar mixture until well mixed. Form dough into small balls, about an inch or so wide. Roll the balls of dough in the crushed candy mixture and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 degrees F.

Remove cookies from oven and let cool on baking sheet for 1 minute, then remove them and roll them in the mixture once more before placing them on a sheet of wax paper to cool.

have not tried those, but it might be what you are looking for.

Yeah, they work. My family folds those into chocolate-flavored dough for bonbons. TG me and I'll send you the recipe.

Oatmeal raisin are my favourite, but cookies are one of those zen-like items: which one is best? They're all the best!

Oh muh goo'ness...

I have three. I like Santa's Whiskers, Linzer and of course, chocolate chunk macadamia. Birds' Nests are nice, too. I'm gonna make some sugar cutter cookies and Santa's Whiskers tonight.

I saw something savagely cool at the store yesterday, 3-D cookie cutters. They make cookies that slide together like mortice-and-tenon woodwork, that you can decorate and stand up. They had two pine trees, snowflake, snowman and Christmas bulb ornament.

The package was $10 which is kind of pricey, but I'm thinking of going back for them next week, when the sales start.
