Bookmarked for Life

Spent the last hour deleting bookmarks - didn't get very far and still have 134 bookmarks left.

And that's not counting the 375 favourited Stumbles.

I'm a virtual packrat.

Someone tell me I don't have too many bookmarks, kthx.

Also, isn't there a smart way to bookmark pages without actually, well, bookmarking them? Something? Anything?

I have a lot of stumble bookmarks. In fact, I find it better to do that, than to rely on FF to keep my bookmarks safe.

The thumbs up stumble with the intent to come back to that page is a farce. I've never come back to it.

I hardly ever bookmark, and those are never visited either. I have a bar of pages I actually visit pretty often. Some for work, some for looking at cars I can't afford, a blog from a friend.

Bookmarks and thumbs up are empty promises from me...

For pages that I frequent often (NS, news sites, etc) I generally don't need to bookmark them. Most of the time they are easily locatable in the address bar history (which I keep tidy for that very reason), and even if they're not I can remember them. My bookmarks are mostly rarely-frequented-but-useful sites, or sites that I've stumbled across and found useful enough to keep. I've got a few, but I keep my bookmarks fairly organised, so it's not a problem.

I never understood the point of bookmarks. Companies like Google provide huge databases of links for people to search for free; search engines are basically autonomous, self-organizing, and self-updating bookmark collections. And a site visited often enough becomes memorized and thus does not require a bookmark.

I have bookmarks, but I haven't actually used them in a very long time.

Some websites, especially those focussed on niche subjects, aren't always easy to find again even with a search engine.

Last time I checked I had just under 2000 bookmarks, and they're reasonably well organised.

From time to time I wander through a section of them and cull any dead links that I find, but not as often as I should. I also carry an export of them on my USB stick so that I can access them on whatever PC I happen to be using at any given time.

I only bookmark the occasional obscure page that would be a bother to re-navigate to. (forum posts on hyperactive boards that I want to check up on, images and other things posted in volatile places, and obscure, long-urled things found when googling) The rest I keep memorized. Currently, I have 10 bookmarks. Of which half are due to be purged, but seeing as I seldom check them, they tend to lie around for a bit.

Thanks to vimperator (firefox extension) and its keyboard navigation, typing urls is pretty fast; <ESC>osomething.com<ENTER> Make the "o" a "t" if you want a new tab.

I have easily over 500 just in my 'Games' main folder... broken down into sub folders for the game .. and then the subject matter to that game/class/progression/quests etc.

I have 10 more of these 'main' folders, some of which have way more links than my gaming folder.. varying from general information to sciences, economic, history, technology, religions, philosophy, mysticism/occult/conspiracy all with sub folders and more folders in the sub folders. In other words .. too many lol.

I will clean them up sometime, but I just don't want to spend the time it will take to do it yet. Last time I did a clean up I got frustrated and just completely wiped out a few of the main subject folders.

Also, isn't there a smart way to bookmark pages without actually, well, bookmarking them? Something? Anything?

I recently found out that there's some sort of "clip" thingy as an add-on to my Firefox browser that lets me have a virtual list of not whole websites, but clippings from them, which can be handy for shorter stuff that usually gets lost.

On topic, I neither know nor care how many bookmarks I have; all I know is that they are withing reasonable range (<200) and extremely well organized, so that I barely ever look in the wrong folder if I only very vaguely know what it was about. (For example, one of those funny "Top ten blahblah" things might get listed in "Fun" -> "humor" -> "verbal" -> "list-ish things").

Yes. Your profile page, btw, is under "fun" -> "NS" -> "profiles". :] *insert maniac, psychopath grin*

EDIT:// My computer tells me it's 180 files in 42 folders. Well, that's okay. Okay-ish. Well, maybe I ought to start looking through them. Hmm, maybe even right now.

Crazy people. *shakes head*

I have too many bookmarks....that is for sure. A lot relate to debate here at NSG.......I still have some entitled Eutrusca, for crying out loud!!

* makes note to purge the files.I have those, too. Well, not about Eutrusca (actually, wait, I did, a thread of his where he asked for computer help) but all kinds of single post bookmarks or whole threads about stuff. Most died in the purge last night.

For pages that I frequent often (NS, news sites, etc) I generally don't need to bookmark them. Most of the time they are easily locatable in the address bar history (which I keep tidy for that very reason)Same here. Except for "keep tidy" part. <<

Huh? How does that possibly work for you? There are so many pages I've found only after lengthy searches and many minutes of following referal links - no way I'll find those again except by accident (unless I remember their name which usually isn't the case).

Last time I checked I had just under 2000 bookmarks, and they're reasonably well organised.

From time to time I wander through a section of them and cull any dead links that I find, but not as often as I should. I also carry an export of them on my USB stick so that I can access them on whatever PC I happen to be using at any given time.Smart.

And none of mine are organized. They're all just a long list of bookmarks. :)The first 40 or so of mine are alphabetical, those are the most used ones. The rest is just random.

Tbh, I didn't even know you could make folders for your bookmarks until I read it here. ><
