Yes, I am learnig "krauteese" as my friend puts it...

Though ive grown slightly concerned, as French and Spanish are used far more widely worldwide. Even japaneese is spoken more.

Im a little worried. So to anyone on here... Are you either studying german, or Kannst Du die Deutsch spreche?

(Forgive any errors)

nur ein bischen (how do you do umlauts on this damn keyboard??)

studied it for 5 years at school and my mum's side of the family is german/polish. forgotten most of it though :(

but i do way prefer the language over french or spanish, which i've also attempted to learn in the past. german just fits me better :)

would like to go back to the motherland (or fatherland... i mean Germany.) in fact ;)

Ok were getting somewhere now.

I prefered it too the laughably easy spanish and the riddiculously hard french. Plus the cognates.... Ooh! The cognates!

Ich kann auch Deutsch. Es ist aber auch nicht perfekt.

The cognates do rock the face pretty hard I must say....

That and the pronunciation rocks... seriously... we need more 'k's in English... blöde Englisch!

PS: Eine kleine Warnung: In Austria and Germany you would get arrested for shouting "Sieg Heil!"

Die korrekte Form ist "bisschen" aber man kann auch "bißchen" verwenden, allerdings ist "bißchen" aus der alten Rechtschreibung.

cognates are all the signs which you don't have on your keyboard and you only get them with specific key-combinations, for example: alt + 0134 = †
simply hold down alt and press some keys on the num-block.

Words that are the same/similar across languages.
Like "Alkohol" and "Alcohol", or "Bier" and "beer", or "Whiskey" and "whiskey," or "Wodka" and "Vodka."

(In response to the thread title) Does WHO speak Deutsch? How would I know whether or not "they" (whoever that is) speak Deutsch.

I'm saying this because you didn't capitalize "sie", and "sie", uncapitalized, means "they". (Or "she", depending on the context.) If you meant to say "you", you should capitalize it, i.e. "Sie".

The Germans are sissies! They started and lost two world wars! (well, technically the Austro-Hungarians started WWI, but who would know such a fact?)

*runs before he can receive retribution*

Actually, Germans are cool, albeit slightly creepy. I mean, Nietzsche. Really, Nietzsche. And Wagner... Silk. *shudders*

German sure isn't too helpful here. Spanish or any asian language does you more good. I took German because it was recommended for chemists (my original major back in college). I didn't end up a chemist or a very good German-speaker, but I enjoyed it anyway. :)
