Shouldn't even be in moderation. This isn't a legitimate attempt to object to a mod ruling. This just a thinly veiled cry of 'Look at the mod oppression!'.

Methinks I'll take this opportunity to trot out my take on the 'Mod bias zomg' silliness.

It seems that some people, generally new posters, percieve some kind of bias on the part of the Mods in favour of certain veteran posters. They then, when punished for their own rule breaking, go 'completely fucking apeshit'(this is the technical term), believing that they are being punished for doing something when others are getting away with it.

So, what is actually going on? Are the mods really being lenient on certain players because they're 'forum celebrities'? Couldn't be, Eutrusca, for example, was posting on NSG before the dawn of time, and he was banned on a number of occassions. In the last one of these threads with that Belgian guy who's name excapes me, it was suggested that my defense of the mods was sucking up in order tocurry favour. But I was banned for pic spamming, so it can't have made a difference how nice I am to the mods.

What I believe is happening is that some people don't relaise that you don't post on NSG for a few years without getting a feel for exactly where the line is with regard to the various rules. Anyone who's been here that long knows how to phrase an insult such that it's not flaming, or post something controversial so that it's not trolling, or post spam without it being too spammy. And peopel see that confident toeing of the line as flagrantly ignoring it, and assume they can do the same.

I'm of the opinion that the reason that veteran posters are generally less frequently modded than newer (and generally younger) posters is simply because we have learned how to do what they do just below the level of action. For instance, we've learned how to drip acid with every word in a debate without actually stepping over the line into flaming. We can insult an individual deeply without resorting to personal attacks, generally be how brutally we dissect their arguments, laying their inadequacies bare by example.

Also, we have a tendency not to whine and bitch when we DO break the rules, and end up getting modded. Granted, I've only ever received an unofficial warning, which I'm not even sure anyone remembers, so I may not be in a position to expound on the subject.

What I can tell you, is that I have noticed a mod or two breaking forum rules themselves, and when this happens, there is nothing anyone can do.
Becuase they are the "law", the "laws" dont apply to them, like they do the rest of us.

I think far too many of us take all this a little too seriously. I remember my original deletion from a nasty flamewar with Stephistan. We ended up being friends, and even chatting occasionally on the ol' IM.

I remember folks like Beeker, or even MichaelJackson666 and just kinda shake my head.
