Well, if you're going to make a thread about the intelligence of NSers, it is kind of sad to have such a basic error in the title. It has nothing to do with trolling, but more basic grammar and word choice.
And I'm kind of curious about this recent obsession with the phrase "Faux Pas"

The use of superfluous words does not indicate intelligence, but it does make one seem really smart. Mm, my English teacher would be so proud.
But, the fact that most people here take the time to read the news and such, I'd say that maybe NSers are just a tad smarter than Average Joe.
Yes, we are.
Most of the stupidity here has causes other than paucity of intellect.

I'd say the people you meet on the forums are quite smart as long as you keep your eyes on the right topics. The vast majority of non-forum nations is hard to judge. I've talked to some right-wing representatives, and... well look at the lines above.

Yeah, and you know what's best about that? IQ tests simply test how well your brain can cope with problems it confronts, and your result in such a test is then transfered to real life, which means that essentially, you will not only get better at IQ tests if you repeat them, but your brain can simulate intelligence by adapting to the situation (of course, that's an _awful lot_ of situations you have to go through until you can simulate high intelligence in real life).

Are NS player smarter than average? Looks like Fass needs to learn himself what an average is.
On average, I'd say NSGers are smarter than average, but not because of anything on this forum. I'm basing my opinion on the following:
We are all literate--Not great, but better than about 18% of the world.
We all have computers, or at least access to computers--Again, not great itself, but we all live in places with a certain standard of infrastructure. Owning a computer also means we probably are middle-class, and while money doesn't imply intelligence, it does correlate with education.
And, as much as I hate to admit it, there are some really smart people here. They alone may bring the average up.

It's easy to sound smart, you just need long words and pseudo-intellectual arguments, however being actually being smart doesn't rely on just being a walking thesaurus. That being said, the NSs' who are basically discussing politics, economics and war through the medium of their countries, probably are smart.

Firstly, the average internet user is more intelligent than their national average.
Second, NSers are more intelligent than the average internet user. The "old" internet (the tech sites and academic networks) would clean the floor with us, but the average intelligence of internet users is shown pretty plainly by YouTube.
The advantage that computer competence and reading skills give to the improvised games of the NS stable suggests all of NS is above-average. The premium we place on good writing clinches the matter.

The subjective experience depends more on your attitude than intelligence. Some people just muddle through and don't mind failure much.
Perhaps it comes down to this: the more perceptive mind judges success more harshly. It's hard for a really intelligent person to be entirely satisfied with the new jet-ski they saved for, or indeed with one of their own thoughts.
What I really meant was: more intelligent people achieve external standards of success (good job, money, respect of peers) more easily, all else being equal. Consequently, they can become quite complacent (even becoming quite dumb, sometimes, from lack of application.)
However, if I did belong to a school, it would be the flatulent one.

Arguably, you don't know us AT ALL. You have a model of NH or Soheran or Ashmoria, of how we think. You have built that model by trying to think our thoughts (by reading their literal expression.)
Ask yourself how you "know" the ancient Greek philosophers, and you will see the sense in the above.

I think that the vast majority of you are idiots.
Let's examine that in more depth.
It remains a possibility that you consider every NSGer but yourself an idiot.
It is also possible that you consider yourself an idiot.
It is also possible that you consider your intellect superior to some, who you would not go so far as to call idiots.
So, by way of narrowing down your meaning, let me ask you this: is there even one poster on this board who you consider your intellectual superior?
I won't ask you to name names, but an honest answer would be appreciated.
Granted, I am a fan of classical philosophy.
And did those ancients define their intelligence by contrast to the stupidity of others?
I would say rather the opposite. The contrast was between elated human nature, and inanimate matter. Democritus and such even respected the complexities of lifeless matter. Their view of ignorance and other human failing was amused tolerance, at worst a sense of tragedy.
So, in what classical work did you learn contempt for others?
Perhaps the skeptics are your thing. Or the sophists.

Hehe... I went to the fridge about half an hour ago, intending to cook myself some breakfast before heading off for the train. I then spotted a couple of slices of cheesecake, which I have just finished - along with a pint of coffee.
Sweet, sweet breakfast :p
I am so envious. Except for the coffee part.

God is allowed sin, he's not catholic.
If he was, finding a father confessor would be ... complicated.

Indeed. Who does God talk to when he needs to talk to God?

Ergo: God is not a Catholic.
Ergo: God is not a Catholic.
Well that and he doesn't worship himself, doesn't believe in himself, doesn't follow his rules, doesn't try to be like his son, never recieved any of the sacraments.

I just realized, that God stuff was from some other thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=544654)
Gens Romae extraordinary claim to be the smartest person on NSG (or was it all of NS?) inspired me to go and read that thread.
He didn't exactly win that one. After picking the turf and claiming to be an expert, he came maybe fourth.
Strong performance, considering the opponents.
