A Little Help Here...

I'm trying to get rid of a rather annoying tendency I have sometimes. When people say random words, I just burst into laughter. There's this guy in my French class who does it for fun, because I laugh at anything. While I don't have a problem with the people who try to make me laugh, is there any way I can get rid of this habit?

Stab the people who make you laugh, then learn to cackle instead.

I already cackle.

My first suggestion would be, don't tell the many hundreds of thousands of people on the internet who derive great deals of enjoyment from doing exactly what you're suffering from.

What kind of random words does this guy say, anyway?

Poop the face! (if you heard the way I said it, you'd laugh)

He used to say "pudding". After a lot of mental training I can go through it without laughing. Then he tried "walnut" and "toaster".

I laughed anyway. :(

Interesting.

I have to confess that I only asked so that I could cruelly force you to repeat the very words that made you laugh. For you see, Johnny... I am one of those people who derive unreasonable quantities of glee from doing exactly what you're suffering from! BWAHAHAHAAAAH! My evil plans have finally come to fruition!

Although I have to confess, sitting in the middle of a classroom and randomly saying "walnut" or "wazzock" or something equally daft is a bit... odd. Class clown, by any chance?

Yeah, that's him. But he rarely does it so other people can here. He tried it today, probably because I made a rather sarcastic reply to one of his dramatic jokes (Comedy must be his territory). He told the person next to me "Watch this. (waves his hands dramatically. I put on my poker face.)...toaster. (I laugh)"

Trying laughing with extra umph, pushing a lot of breath into each laugh. Make sure it's high pitched and somewhat maniacal. Open your mouth all the way when you laugh, pretending that you're the Joker.

You should be able to control your laughter after a while of it.

Sometimes I do.

Do it more. You'll run out of breath quicker, and quiet down easier. Soon enough you'll be able to control your churlish outbursts.

Aversion Therapy. Have a friend say random words at you and every time you laugh have them smack you across the face.
You'll learn to stop laughing soon enough.
