A woman seized a samurai sword and slashed her boyfriend with it, then smashed a gas station window and two car windows before slashing a would-be good Samaritan, police said.

The woman allegedly seized the sword, which was hanging on her boyfriend's wall, during an argument last night, slashing him on his shoulder, arm, and head.

Still holding the sword, she walked across the street to the Petro Canada station at Steeles Avenue East and Martin Street, Halton Regional police said. She broke a large window and two glass doors, then walked up to a car and smashed two car windows.

Steven Reynolds, a 42-year-old volunteer firefighter and Milton resident, intervened during the rampage. She turned on him with the sword, slashing his arm. Employees then managed to overpower her, said Det. Sgt. Murray Drinkwalter.

‘‘This is a somewhat bizarre situation that could have had far more serious consquences had it not been for the actions of Mr. Reynolds and had it not been for the actions of the two employees,’’ he said.

The woman, who had herself sustained some injuries, was taken to Oakville Memorial Hospital. Her boyfriend was taken to Milton District Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

As yet, no charges have been laid.

Same here, except I don't own either, and I would probably give someone my sword instead of being shot just for the sake of them having to pry it out of my cold dead fingers. I mean really.. cold dead fingers.. . not so handy to have around.

Have you ever practiced with them? They take a lot of skill to wield well. I was messing around with a friends on watermelons. A lot of fun but harder then I thought. In fact I would rather be shot by a gun then hit with a sword by someone that knew how to use it effectively. I feel sorry for all those guys that had to fight the wars in the middle ages. The scenes had to be horrific.

I was once told about two friends practising fencing. When they finished, one of them was surprised to find one of his fingers not leaving the gauntlet with the rest of the hand :)
