You can demand all you like, not entirely sure it will make a difference.

And if it is flaming and or trolling they did not do a good job at it, then they at least could have brought up the "War on Christmas"

Maybe this was a genuine request to have a good season?

It might be relevant to point out that during this time of year B&E's and other crimes (http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/bocsar/ll_bocsar.nsf/pages/bocsar_crime_at_new_year_2006) significantly increase.

However, it might also be relevant to point out that during this time of year suicides (http://www.suicideinfo.ca/csp/assets/alert16.pdf) do not (contrary to common belief).

Had this forum moved a little more slowly this post and the embarrassment involved in creating it would be completely unnecessary.

Merry Christmas, I guess, but it seems really early for a thread about it. It's still nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit around here, so it doesn't feel like Christmas season yet.

But then again, later this week I'm going to help with a Christmas event at a local elementary school in my area and then in two weeks or so we're going to have our Saturnalia party for Latin club.

you really do just have to get that first cold day out of the way...I had to drive my car yesterday (it's parked 10 minutes away). Sucked hardcore. Today, being around 32, however, was wonderful. Walked into campus and didn't even really feel cold.

My car almost didn't start yesterday. Currently, I only drive about once a week, and it had been about a week and a half since I had last started it this time. It did not sound happy.

I did have one time I was up in Vermont and I forgot to bring the tank above the half way mark. Water vapor froze in the lines, and we had to push it into the garage and heat it up for a few hours. That was a bad day.

Moral of the story, keep your tank well filled, and use dry gas in winter.

I get what the rest of you Northerners are saying. In EL, it's been pretty mild so far. We had a warm october and a very mild November. We didn't even get snow until Dec 1st. I just now busted out the winter coat & boots. Unfourtunately, Dec is off to a crappy start. We had a nice inch and a half yesterday morning, and we had a fricking Ice Storm last night. Dumped a nice, thick coating of ice all over everything. Nearly fell on my ass comming back from the caf last night. Luckly, it got warmer today. But then we had cold rain. Bleh.

Back home in the UP, however, it's a different story. They already have a foot down near Houghton-Hancock, and even more south near Tapiola. Average, right now, but a winter wonderland compared to here. We're lucky if we get a foot on the ground at any one time. There, we have snowdrifts the size of small mountains.

Sigh. I miss home.

Hit December, and temps crash down, and now snow. No ice yet, luckily. I'm sensing some good strong nor'easters this season tho.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all ...... And a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Britain great, (not to imply that Britain is necessarily greater than any other country), and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference or orientation of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

To be fair most people would not encounter that but there are some nasty spots in the pastures and some of the lowlands around here that we have to get through at times
