Watching the republican debates has raised many questions in my mind.
One of which is about the relevance of which baseball team you cheer for - is this seriously a consideration when evaluating a presidential candidate?
Every day I am filled with more despair at the stupidity of the American public. As Einstein said: "only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former'. Get some perspective people. With all the real issues that affect people's lives - these men will literally have the power to get millions of people killed, and you ask a question about cheering for a sports team?
This is why democracy doesn't work - the voting public is largely composed of irrational people wholly ignorant about basic issues of importance and instead decide on irrelevant garbage.
Is there any hope of having a legitimate debate? These publicity stunts called debates are a joke. Sound bite answers to idiotic questions (though to be fair, not all of them were that bad) tell you nothing more than what quips their staff can get a politician to memorize. Could we possibly get candidates to spend an hour or so in an actual head to head debate focused on a single topic of actual importance so we can get them to say something substantial? That would show us how a candidate is able to think on their feet, understand the issues, and actually function as more than just a talking head spouting stupid catch phrases.
Oh wait... sorry... forgot that the vast majority of voters wouldnt care and would rather watch an episode of Ow my balls!
