This is from an email sent to me by some Christian friends. Do you think we have two stupid idiots here? Or do you think this is even real?

Christian Receives Insulting Response to an Email Complaint to ABC Television-Truth!

Jim Neugent is a coach in Childress, Texas.

Jim writes:
My name is Jim Neugent. I wrote to ABC (on-line) concerning a program called "THE PRACTICE." In last nights episode, one of the lawyer's mothers decided she is gay and wanted her son to go to court and help her get a marriage license so she could marry her 'partner.' I sent the following letter to ABC yesterday and really did not expect a reply, but I did get one.

My original message was:

ABC is obsessed with the subject of homosexuality. I will no longer watch any of your attempts to convince the world that homosexuality is OK. ' THE PRACTICE' can be a fairly good show, but last night's program was so typical of your agenda. You picked the 'dufus' of the office to be the one who was against the idea of his mother being gay, and made him look like a whiner because he had convictions. This type of mentality calls people like me a "gay basher."
Read the first chapter of Romans (that's in the Bible) and see what the apostle Paul had to say about it.... He, God and Jesus were all 'gay bashers'. What if she'd fallen in love with her cocker spaniel? Is that an alternative life style? (By the way, the Bible speaks against that, too.)
--Jim Neugent

Here is ABC's reply from the ABC on-line webmaster:

How about getting your nose out of the Bible (which is ONLY a book of stories compiled by MANY different writers hundreds of years ago) and read the declaration of independence (what our nation on is built on), where it says "All Men are Created equal," and try treating them that way for a change! Or better yet, try thinking for yourself and sto p using an archaic book of stories as your lame crutch for your existence. You are in the minority in this country, and your boycott will not affect us at ABC or our freedom of statement.

Jim Neugent's second response ! to ABC:Thanks for your reply. From your harsh reply, evidently I hit a nerve. I will share it with all with whom I come in contact. Hopefully, the Arkansas Democrat Newspaper will include it in one of their columns and I will be praying for you.

Note: Wouldn't Satan just love it if people stopped using the Bible
for a crutch? Please resend this to everyone in your mailbox.

I find the response from ABC to be comically unlikely.

Seems to be there are two people here who have sort of naieve ideas about the world.

The coach thinks somehow his letter is gonna make an impact on ABC, and the response from ABC was quite unprofessional and would, at best, serve only to cause the coach to dig his heels in further.

That said, it's nothing new to see political agendas woven into the s tory line of a drama series. I remember a few years ago E.R. (On NBC) started to get really blatant about it. One episode in particular I remember was one where a gunman was hunting Dr. Greene around Chicago and was shooting everybody in sight. The shooting spree ended when a citizen who was carrying a gun shot him.

This led to a nnumber of varied reactions by the staff at the hospital, and notably the only characters who supported the guy who ended the shooting with his own gun were some of the least likable characters. The more popular and "noble" characters all sneered at the guy who shot the killer (he had been wounded in the firefight and was being treated at the hospital as well) even to his face.

...the guy ended a shooting spree, and the "good" characters were looking down their noses at him.

So the writers' agenda on this issue was very clear.

(It should be noted that the gunman also survived and was brought to the hospital, but Dr. Greene himself just stood and watched him die when he coded in the elevator on the way to emergency surgery. How morally upstanding of him.)

this is true of most tv shows sooner or later.

Proof that every group, every race, every religion, every gender, every ethnic group, etc. has an approximately equivalent proportion of assholes.

In my experience with humanity, I suspect that Nature abhors an asshole vacuum. :p

ABC had the chance to take the moral high ground and simply reply:

"It is unfortunate that you are not satisfied with our programing. Please understand that we will not be changing it in the near future, and though we do not agree with you, we respect your opinion and your right to it, as well as your right not to watch our programing. Thank you for your input."

But yeah...

...Neugent could have also avoided the whole SNAFU with a letter that was, y'know, measured and respectful? "Dear ABC? I am dissatisfied with your programming on (Blank), and I will no longer watching your stations." or suchwhat...

...OR! And here's the kicker!

He could have just let it be. No one's forcing him to watch ABC, and there's no real need to inform ABC of his boycott. He is one of literally millions of viewers: ABC won't be hurting much without his business.

CONCLUSION!

Mr. Neugent is at fault here for starting this needless troll-fest, but ABC sure didn't help with their response.

POST-CONCLUSION!

Both are enormous douchebags.

ahhh the power of the internet.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/practice.asp

its true but not as stated.

and for some reason i cant copy anything from the page so youll have to look at it for yourself.

**edit**

took it from the source code:

Mr. Neugent'sreceipt of an insulting response from ABC's web site was the product of an overzealous employee's overstepping his authority without authorization, not an expression of official ABC policy. ABC promptly investigated and determined what had occurred, and it then reacted responsibly by terminating the employee responsible and sending an official apology to Mr. Neugent The only person really at fault here is the anonymous employee who took it upon himself to express his personal opinions as if he were a representative of ABC.

Ach! Faith in the professionalism of ABC is restored.

How could anyone have thought that "response" was legit? No network, indeed no business, would be so deliberately stupid as to leave itself open to a potential lawsuit. In fact, if I hadn't read what snopes.com said about it, I would have assumed it was faked.

Am I the only one doubting the ABC's response? I mean comon, they have to worry about their image at all time, I doubt they would let a letter looking like that slip out.

I doubt the validity!

As did I, which is why I already made that observation.

I think it's pure BS. Well, I don't doubt the author doesnt' like TV shows portraying t3h gheys in a positive light. But I would bet moeny he didn't recieve that statement. If he really did, he'd be creating a media shitstorm instead of passing along a chain email.

What a terminally stupid webmaster. Did he not know that that was the worst PR move it would be possible to make? That's the sort of thing you say when you're in an inconsequential internet flamewar, not in a PR capacity (though an accidental one) for a national television network.

I mean, I dislike religion as much as nearly anyone I know, but that's just retarded.

I love how many people follow the Bible on homosexuality; Leviticus, specifically. In Leviticus it lays down the Kosher laws too. How many christians do you know who eat pork, shellfish, etc...?:headbang:

Selective inturpritation?

If the bible says they can't do something that they want to do, well, that's really not how God meant it to be, you know?

But if -other- people are doing something they don't like, then God explicetly wrote -in blood!- that they absolutely without a doubt should NOT be doing it. (possibly written on a napkin tucked into the back of the original).

I think the coach dude is an idiot, and the letter from ABC was faked. That would be entirely unprofessional and leaves them prone to a lawsuit.

But nobody forced Coach to watch ABC, that was his choice and his choice alone. If he didn't want to watch "the Practice" then he could have flipped to another channel to watch Pat Robertson.
