This is all a dream... the world doesn't exist therefore it cannot end; we're all part of one massive dream of an alien race.

I don't mean to suddenly give a straight answer, but I'd say nukes. They called WWI "The War the end all wars". And then, you know what? It leads, pretty directly, to WWII. And weapons will only get more powerful.

That is, unless we have some major change in how we function as a race, which I don't see happening.

Grey goo is the only truly unstoppable force.

But that's so far in the future...

I personally think a blackhole will cause the end of the earth. In Sam Neils space documentary the events that occur as the black hole gets close match that of the judgements in the bible, especailly the part where the blackhole misses earth in a way that it causes mass earthquakes and then pulls the sun nearer which in turn melts earth. That is the way it went in the documentary.

I'd say we nuke ourselves. and meanwhile I'll be in my underground bunker waiting it all out and wait for the radioactive gas to settle. After they settle, I will be the new ruler of Earth!

My thoughts are that people will become so stupid and savage that we will lose all advanced knowledge and fall into a new time of mysticism. Anyone with any idea how to work the technology that survives will form a new sort of class of magician-elders, such as those of very ancient times before warrior patriarchy, by ritualizing the use of technology much as they ritualized the necessary procedures for survival in the primitive world.

Please-if we survived the seventies, we'll survive anything. I went from a conviction of MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) to the belief we will conquer space adequately to survive our sun's dwindling in a mere eight years-but again, Reagan was President and Clint Eastwood had his own police force then. I am still hopeful-after all, we survived Disco and Clinton...

Giant asteroid hits planet. Impact has more energy than several million nuclear bombs. Sun gets blocked out for months. Plants can't photosynthesize. What little animal life that remains has next to no food source. All life vanishes.

We will adapt, no matter what because humans are innovative animals which is why we are the dominant species. Hundreds will survive and the Earth may bring us back to a savage-like state, but humanity would survive. The only way it wouldn't was if the whole Earth were removed from existance. To look at it realistically, there aren't many things in the universe than can do that to the Earth.
