Well, I was watching an ad for one of those Online Dating Services a while back, and it was talking about a special formula they use to find who you're most compatible with.

Now, not to be crazy conspiracy guy, but doesn't that sound like something out of some dystopian novel? Your partner is chosen for you by a mathematical formula? Does that strike anyone else as a little creepy?

It strikes me as totally awesome. No more wasting time on dead-end relationships and people, who turn out to not be quite as interesting as they look. Lazy, perhaps, but there's nothing fundamentally wrong with that. Furthermore, it takes some of the responsibility and vulnerabilitativeness of making the first move away from me, which makes starting a relationship easier.

It gets creepy only when it's mandatory.

Well, it's like security cameras. They aren't permeating (At least in the US) yet, but doesn't the possibility of it bug you anyways?

Not really. I don't do anything that every other normal person wouldn't do. Even if I did, I wouldn't really care if I were monitored by some bored, underpaid government worker, who doesn't know me, will never meet me, and couldn't care less about what I do on a personal level.

Of course, security cameras and dating algorithms, along with pretty much everything else, can cause problems in the wrong hands. However, completely shunning such brilliant and helpful innovations just because they can potentially cause harm is pretty much the reason why groups like the Amish exist.
