He's a very powerful republican senator who just got elected last year to his fourth 6-year senate term. But he's bowing out after one year so he can become a lobbyist a little faster(which he wouldn't even have to worry about until 2012).

It probably has a lott (pun intended) to do with the fact that his beloved Republicans no longer control the Senate and Congress and that the Presidency is also in jeopardy? :D
