So, what do you guys think is the Lamest Conspiracy Theory? For me, it would have to be that 9/11 was an inside job. I mean let's not forget how many people you'd have to keep quiet to pull this off, but the simple fact that these nut case don't even grasp the simple laws of physics is astounding. They actually believe that a 127,520lb aircraft with full tanks of gas slamming into the towers and the Pentagon at 500mph wasn't enough to bring down the towers, or knock the hole in the Pentagon. They needed to use explosive and a cruise missile.

Well I disagree with the specific 9/11 conspiracy theory you just talked about, that one is totally implausible and lame. But the other argument is that 9/11 was in fact done by Islamic extremists yet somewhere up the terrorist chain of command it was ordered by the CIA or some vested interest in US commercial/political circles who wanted to create hysteria and war etc.

The reasoning for this is that Bin Laden was essentially hired by the CIA in Afghanistan to lead the Mudjahadeen against the Soviets, and was given weapons and support, so the logic is if the CIA could hire him for that why couldn't they hire him to hit the two towers, the hijackers themselves wouldn't have known and you have just been used. I think that is a plausible theory, I mean their is no doubt whatsoever certain 'vested interests' benefited massively from the 'war on terror'.

Yes, two towers that were built to withstand an airplane crashing into it and a the missile theory is unpopular even amoung the Truth Movement. Most just think it was a Global Hawk.

Actually the Twin Towers were to withstand a hit from a Boeing 707, which is smaller than a Boeing 757/767 that was on approach to JFK or La Guardia and already used up most of it's fuel and wasn't going at 500mph, but rather around 200mph or 180mph. Actually steel do not need to melt, in only needs to be weaken. Jet A fuel burns at 825° C, however steel can loose half of it's strength at 648 ° C. Considering that these aircrafts were filled with enough fuel to do a flight across the country, I'd say there was more than enough fuel on board to melt the steel more than just 648 ° C.

and how is it physically impossible? Because like I said, the steel in the towers already lost 50% of their strength, the weight of the floors above the damaged area kept on pushing down on the steel, and that includes people, office equipment, etc. It was only a matter of time before they collapsed.

A turn around time is the amount of time it takes from an aircraft to arrive at the gate and then depart again. So to say that they lost radar contact momentarily would be false since it would take a half an hour to an hour for an aircraft of this size to land, deboard, and take off again. and it would've been in Radar contact with ATC the whole time.

What bugs me about conspiracy theorists is when they can't accept that it is rational to believe something other than what they believe.

I'm not familiar with too many conspiracy theories, but it seems likely to me that some of them might involve events that are physically possible and secrets hidden by a relatively small number of people. I can live with people believing all sorts of things -- let's face it, we all get our information from the media, not directly, and it's not entirely impossible to suppose that the *media* have their own agenda ... quite the reverse, I think, although their agenda may simply be to make the news look interesting and important.

But the ultimate fallacy of the conspiracy theorist is that there is only one "right" way to perceive a sequence of events; unless they have personal knowledge and evidence of a cover-up, in which case it seems to me that they are not a conspiracy theorist at all, but a whistle-blower.

Former Italian President and the man who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio Francesco Cossiga has gone public on 9/11, telling Italy's most respected newspaper that the attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad and that this was common knowledge amongst global intelligence agencies.

What I love about this conspiracy theory is it requires you not to understand ANYTHING about demolition. If this were really a demolition, they would not have to do anything that would shake floors. That's the biggest problem with the theory is that it requires not only for this to have been a massive conspiracy, but they would have to be intentionally leaving evidence.

The entire relies on ignorance, wild incompetence and confusion. Evidence is presented scientifically. Witnesses are WILDLY unreliable. That's a fact. This selectively chooses witnesses and attempts to weave them together into some kind of a theory.

First of all, if you KNEW the building was about to be destroyed, why would you be in it? Yet, this ignorant theory claims they would be in the building.

Second, why would they leave so much evidence when they could demolish your house without waking you up till the bombs went off. No shaking floors or moving of dumpsters.

Third, people confused the noise of the strain on the building with things they are more familiar with. What does the bending of support beams sound like? You don't know. Nor do I. What does it sound like when so much pressure occurs on one side of a building that cement pops off the outside? Again, you don't know. Relying on witnesses to tell you what is going on is ludicrous. Witnesses also claimed that 20 thousand people died at the time and that there were four planes and various other wild and inaccurate claims. That's what witnesses to wild tragedy do.

It's really sad that people waste their time worrying about this nonsense when there are so many real tragedies going on that we can accuse our government of.

I agree, but I think I understand their angle (apart from irrationality of conspiracies), since one of my friends is a "believer" if you will. Basically they've always thought that, if you could just show that 9/11 was NOT caused by Islamic terrorists, and/or with the support of the government, then THAT would discredit the whole War on Terror, Afghanistan, and Iraq in one fell swoop. No need for petty bickering about WMDs or in-depth rebuttals of the "reasons" given for Iraq... it's all very convenient and handy.

So I would say it's a case of wishing-it-were-so on their part.

Not that that's an excuse to go believing in silly conspiracies, but for a time there it seemed everyone in the US completely supported every foreign policy disaster we embarked on. The "truthers" were, other than the lone pacifists, amongst the only people for a time who seemed to have a strong opposition to the War On Terror. Of course since then lots of people have changed their minds and so even that minor positive is removed...

Yes, I'm sure you'll find that most of the people disagreeing with you are HUGE Bush supporters. I mean, why look at our history of talking about what a bad president Bush is and use that as evidence? Why use evidence at all? 9/11 CT's don't.

Who said that all of us that disagree with you support Bush? I can't wait until the day he's out of office (as long as Hillary isn't moving in the same day). As far as believing or disbelieving the 9/11 conspiracy, I know how to look at the facts. I can tell hard evidence from conjecture and speculation.

Theory:
Aircraft fuel fires burn at 750 degrees C or so, Steel melts at 1400 degrees C , therefore the fire did'nt melt the steel frame and explosives were used to bring the building down.

Annoying fact:

Anyone (like me) who knows about steel, knows that steel loses its strength as it gets hotter, between room temp and 750C it loses 75% of its strength.
So if a WTC steel beam has a strength of 50 tons and its loaded to 25 tons, and then you raise the temp to 750C , its strength drops to 12.5 tons, but its still loaded to 25 tons............

The amazing thing for me is not that it took an aircraft ramming the towers at 450 mph to bring them down, its the fact the towers stood for 55 mins and 90 mins after the aircraft hit
