Even in the modern age the seas are dangerous.

We read in books of old just how dangerous the seas are but in the modern age we sometimes take things for granted. We think we are safe in our steel ship, but mother nature proves once again she is more powerful than we will ever be.
Thankfully, everyone got off the ship and were rescued by another cruise ship. So, who wants to take a cruise to the South?

I don't know why, but I've loved pictures of sinking ships...kinda morbid.

Damn. I've sailed on a number of Cruise ships before, and every Muster drill we had to endure on the first day of every cruise was such a chore.
After this, I will keep in mind why they are so necessary.

I get sad when I see a sinking ship or a derelict aircraft. :( They are beautiful creations and I wish they all could be saved. Must have something to do with my spending time in the Navy and Air Force.
We might have changed, at least technologically, but the seas haven't.

A)it didn't happen
or
B) Conservatives should be blamed
I think option B is more plausible.
Actually, the Associated Press is the source of the article. Therefore, the damn hippie liberals should be blamed. :D

No, AP was the source and you would have know that if you opened the link. But if it makes you feel a little better try this link http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/11/23/antarctica.ship/index.html

I was raised on Lake Michigan. I know better than to trust any large body of water any further than I could throw it. And terrifyingly enough, the Great Lakes are some of the most unsafe waters in the world - the storms on Lake Superior this month are awe-inspiring.

The seas are not dangerous. The only things that can sink a ship are either drunkenness or arrogance. Not sure which this time around.

They wouldn't have hit said iceberg if they weren't either arrogant or drunk.
On a related, but irrelevant note, anyone remember the M/S Sea Diamond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Diamond)? There is some conclusion, but the two missing people were never found.

As South Islands says, that’s a rather arrogant attitude to take. The seas, especially the oceans, are still a dangerous place.
The scariest moments of my life have been out at sea, and all bar one have been due to the weather turning unforeseeably.

It does, but don't tell anyone especially SA or is it As.? :p It seems the pirates tied led weights on the iceberg to get it below the waterline and towed it in front of the cruise ship. Then after the cruise ship goes down the pirates will dive down to the wreck and get all the goodies that were abandoned by the passengers and crew.

Yeah, the high seas are still dangerous. Apparently there's something called a rogue wave, a wave that's several hundred feet high and several hundred feet deep. No one knows what causes them, or why they never reach shore but they have been known to destroy tankers. Google it, I'm sure you'll get something.

I'ma do this Dawkins-style;
We read in books of old just how dangerous the seas are but in the modern age we sometimes take things for granted. We think we are safe in our steel ship, but mother nature proves once again she is more powerful than we will ever be.
If nature is to be personified, then mother nature is an unjust, opportunistic whore, a lying, seductively misleading bimbo, a cruel, spiteful, vindictive, malevolent, unforgiving, mass-murdering bitch. (and just in case of potential misunderstanding, the previous comment wasn't meant to be offensive to feminists but the terms were just used because nature was called "mother")
Churchill didn't surrender to the Nazis despite how overwhelmingly powerful they seemed, and as such we shouldn't surrender to nature. (though granted that probably isn't what's being suggested, I just wanted to mention that)
