So I am driving along and this twit in front of me has this bumper sticker:
"If you don't stand behind our troops, you are welcome to stand in front of them"
I was glad I was turning so that I didn't get to see the driver's face. I certainly hope that it is no one that I know!!
Any bumper stickers out there that annoy you??

I find that offensive!
What It means is that if you don't support our troops, then why should they fight for you.....
Why should that annoy you? Its our troops, not you that are serving overseas, so just give your support....its not supposed to be an agressive statement

It's offensive because it implies that if you disagree with an illegal war, you should be shot by troops whose weapons and training your taxes helped to pay for.
Also... bummer stickers? Heh.

More importantly, war caused the genocide in Yugoslavia, politicians were the first to start the process of ending slavery, fascism and nazism generally were the cause of the wars that brought them down (note that Nazi Germany probably would have been ignored if they hadn't gone to war against everyone).

Hm, yes. So they're confident in saying that the Great War played no part in the rise of Nazism, I suppose!
And I'm now wondering what war caused Britain to outlaw slavery, and who's going to tell the estimated twelve-million slaves in the world today that it's okay! Slavery has been abolished!

I'm from the UK and I think that bumper sticker is absolutly stupid, firstly the USA is isolated from the rest of the world (geography wise) as it is so far away from other countries, so which country would change the language to theirs? Also the reason americans wouldn't speak another language is because the UK originally colonised the USA including the language.

Actually, I do because of a simple reason. One of my elder in-laws speaks English today because of a Nazi soldier. The man was approached and told by a soldier that they were removing Jews from the village and encouraged the man to leave and told him how to do it. And the person the soldier told to leave was a Jew.

Eh actually, England screwed up the Middle East by colonizing it and then drawing borders on a map with a ruler that put groups of people who hate one another in the same country. That's how the Kurds, the Sunnies, and the Shities ended in a country known as Iraq.

Er. I know the UK screwed with the Mid East before the US decided to step in and continue the screwing up. That's beside the point.
My "rant" was hardly "Anti-US" and more Anti-Conservative hypocrites who claim the UN is "supporting" Third World despots and tyrants whilst thier own government has for five decades, and currently still is, engaged in providing covert and public support for various dictatorships that have all been terribly detrimental to thier countries in return for economic or military advantage.
Pinochet, Saddam, the Saudi Royal family, Pervez Musharraf even Bin Laden himself are a scant few tyrants that have been, and still are, directly supported by the US government.
And what exactly has the UN done to benefit tyrants and dictators exactly? Oil-For-Food you say? Most corruption cases were actually to do with private US and European corporations using the program. No UN officials have been found guilty of wrong-doing.
Oil-For-Food was a necessary program so that Iraqi family's didn't starve due to the sanctions imposed on thier country.
The UN routinely condemns despotic country's that violate human rights and international law. When they don't it's because they are hamstrung by the Security Council.

Most troops don't have a noble fucking ideology, they work for a living just like everyone else. They may be out there in more danger than most, but in the end, it's still pretty much just a job.
If you want to support the troops, make sure they get a pay check for their job. Since they all do get paid in America, all the patriotic kids down the block can kindly shut their fucking mouths.
Sorry, I have a moral aversion to a job description of murdering people for money.

Any and all bumper stickers you have to actually read. If the message cannot be conveyed in two words or less it has no place being on the rear end of a car. And even at that, I find bumper stickers annoying. I will never have a bumper sticker. A window cling, though, is another story.
I recently got a tiny little window cling with the Block-O and buckeye leaf, representing my university. 1.5" by 2", and I stuck it in the lower corner on the passenger side rear window.

Note the 'for money' part, violence against reactionary political opponents is of course acceptable, in fact I encourage it. In regard to soldiers working for capitalist states, they are nothing but mercenaries.

Yeah, if I had a car, and if in my country, we'd have a culture of bumper stickers, I'd probably have one of those, too. Or "Sona si latine loqueris", "Honk if you speak Latin".
For shirts, "Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure" ("I can't hear you. I've got a banana stuck in my ear"), "Merda taurorum animas conturbit" (Bullshit baffles brains), Estne volumen in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre? (Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just happy to see me?) or "Derideo te!" ("I'm laughing at you!") would do just fine, too. More can be seen at http://www.yuni.com/library/latin.html .
As for English bumper stickers, I'm still extremely partial to "If you're telepathic too, think of honking!"

You 'like' people being asked to prepare themselves for execution by gunfire because they expressed an opinion that doesn't go down well with those who wield the guns in question?
Fuck tasteless, it's completely ignorant of history. The only two wars that threatened the existence of the U.S. were both between two English speaking groups.
You expect the mindless masses to have even a very basic grasp of the essential facts and events in their own country's history?
Also the reason americans wouldn't speak another language is because the UK originally colonised the USA including the language.
Maybe some Americans believe English is indigenous to the United States? I occasionally hear stories about Americans asking what language people speak in England... Whether they're true or not, I don't know.

They are true, I'm sad to say. Every so often, when I'm feeling bored or slightly tricksterish, I like to affect one of the accents I've collected over a lifetime of hearing them. I do this when I'm not around anyone I know (in queue at government agencies, for example). I will never forget the incident where I had on a Scottish brogue for kicks and talked to some lovely young ladies who, after a few minutes, asked me what language I was speaking. Now mind you, we'd been conversing and understanding one another for at least two or three minutes. :headbang:

It's offensive because it implies that if you disagree with an illegal war, you should be shot by troops whose weapons and training your taxes helped to pay for.
Also... bummer stickers? Heh.
Exactly!!
More and more, it seems that a lot of what a person believes can be pinned to his ability to comprehend and evaluate what he reads.
Here we have someone bawling and whining because he couldn't understand a bumper sticker.
Clearly, what it means is "if you don't support the troops, don't rely on them for your safety."
Where is the safest place to be in a battle? Behind the soldiers, fancy that!
Make a mental note of the posters who misunderstood this and then started whining, and next time they're whining about something, try to figure out what it is they've read or heard but not understood.

I find the entire idea of bumper stickers slightly annoying, especially when the phrases on bumper stickers get turned into actual policy.
Ones that bother me the most:
The magnetic "Support our Troops" ribbons. I find the fact these people aren't willing to put something anymore permanent that a magnet to express their beliefs hilarious. But mostly, I just get annoyed.
"Get your rosaries out of my ovaries!" First of all, this brings up an image which disgusts me ever time I see the sticker. Secondly, I'm annoyed that it attacks not pro-lifers who hold up dead baby posters or who get put on the Supreme Court, but anyone who prays with a rosary.
"Coexist" I don't know why I don't like this one. I agree with the sentiment, and it's a pretty clever graphic. It still irritates me though, maybe it sounds condescending? That's a puzzler.
"W The President" What does this even mean? Is it stating George W. Bush is the president of the United States? Gee, there's a real insightful message. It could mean that the driver supports Bush, but there is nothing to suggest that. Actually, it doesn't even say anything about Bush . For all I know, I drive with many Woodrow Wilson fans.
