If I have no part of the contract why must I be a party to it?

Such as I have given no authorization for you to see if my credit is agreeable to you, you offer me a plea to gain credit from you - you make a contract to deliver notification to me via the post office and they delivered it to me.

If I stood outside everyday and tell the postman that I reject the mail what would happen?

If I write return to sender on every offer do they pay twice?

um, what? I'm not sure you understand what the mailbox rule really means.

Actually, no, scratch that. I'm positive you don't understand what the mailbox rule means.

It has nothing to do with actually owning a mailbox.

Actually, Wikipedia does a fairly good job of explaining the mailbox rule and none of your questions make sense in light of that.

Perhaps you should read the Wiki article and try again.

no they dont pay twice if the mail is returned to them. **edit** actually i dont think that 4th class mail is ever returned to sender no matter what you write on the envelope

hanging around outside every day just in case you should get a credit card come on that you dont want placed in your mailbox seems to me to be a bit over the top.

and, since i read the link after reading neo's response, why did you cite the mailbox rule?

The mailbox rule, for those playing at home, is a rule of contract law that states that if a offer is made, and acceptance of that offer is delivered by mail, the acceptance is considered valid as of the moment it is placed in the mailbox, not the moment it is received by the other party.

In other words. If you make me an offer and I communicate my acceptance by mail on the 1st, and, by the 2nd, you call me and take back your offer, it's too late, I have already given my acceptance and we formed a contract.

Basically once the acceptance to an offer is mailed to the offerer, the contract is thus considered formed, even if the offerer hasn't received it yet.

Which has nothing what so ever to do with the ramblings of the OP.

you can call the credit card companies and tell them to quit mailing you things. I did it, cut my junk mail down by 75%

Yup, there is a mail version of the Do Not Call list. It just doesn't get as much press and you actually have to call and tell them to leave you alone instead of putting your name on a list.
