Hearts Of Iron 2 Similar Games
I was wondering if anyone here knows of a similar game to Hearts Of Iron 2. in scope and gameplay, for the life of me I cant seem to find one. Older is fine, although newer is nice.

There;s the whole Europa Universalis series although I must say I was expecting a lot more from it so I wouldn't suggest it. Despite that Paradox interactive has a pretty decent monopoly (At least that I know of) on Grand Strategy games. Here's a link to a few names, although I personally have only tried Victoria, HOI2, and EUIII.

I personally never get tired of HOI2, especially if you can scrounge up enough people for multiplayer.
You know what I'm looking for? A really comprehensive Cold War simulation that covers the period of 1945- with all kinds of options to shape the economic, political, or military positions of countries involved in the era.

I tried EuIII.
I dont get tired of HoI 2, but I just hate it when i can have it on extremly fast and each hour of game time takes 3 seconds of RL time to pass by.
This might be a little off topic, but,
Does anyone know of a game that has a style similar to that of the Total War games (Rome, Medieval, Shogun), but covers a larger period of human history (preferably all of it)?

There's some people working on a Cold War mod for Hearts of Iron II, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
I myself wouldn't mind another booster pack for II that added more technologies. Sure, it's nice to have an end date in 1964, but given that all of the technologies for your various units tops out in '51...it's a little unrealistic, like everything just suddenly stopped.

Civilization?
Civilization?
I love Civ, but it lacks the real time combat, which is part of what makes Total War games so great.

You know what would be interesting if Civ had that real time combat mode as in Total War. The outcome would determine the winner of a unit vs unit battle. I think the way they fight now in the Civ games is boring.

It would be interesting, but I don't think it would happen. In Civ games it's all about building an empire, and the battles are left to chance. It would take a lot of work to make a good battle system as well.
But I guess if(whoever makes Total War) and (whoever makes Civ now) combined projects, that would be pretty amazing. Instead of having maps with stationary cities, you would be able to settle your own. Now, recruiting military forces would deplete the population of your cities as well. But they would have to rework tile production to get everything right, and micromanagement would soar (but of course, I'm not really against that).
But I guess the most realistic barrier to prevent such a game (the type of game I would really like) is that this type of game would take weeks if not months to beat, and because of this, a lot of people wouldn't want to play it.
I definitely agree though, I would love to see this kind of game.

I downloaded a demo of Hearts of Iron II Doomsday recently, and was just blown away by the complexity. Civilization might as well be an Early-Childhood-rated game, in comparison. I thought playing as a less significant country like Oman or Liberia would make things easier, but no; I was unable to figure everything out before the demo timed out.
Are the Europa Universalis games less complex (being set in a much earlier time period), or are they just as difficult? I would really like to try out/buy one of the games in this genre, as the concept fascinates me, but I would like it to be just a tad more accessable.
Crusader Kings is a lot like HoI 2, but you won't be able to do much warring in it; you have to save up a lot of money before you can fight for a year or so (which is quite realistic, in all actuality; kings essentially had to beg their subjects for money, and only later did kings gain the power of some permanent taxation. An example would be the French king's taille that was only instituted in the 100 Years War.)

HOI2 is fairly original, but imo it sucks for various reasons (slowdown as the game goes on and shitty AI). if you like paradox games, try victoria. if you're looking for a strategic wargame, get advanced tactics; you can buy it off matrixgames, its one of the best strategy games I've ever played, though its strictly combat and not economy or diplomacy.

I play actively HOI 2: Doomsday and Rome: Total War and I'm looking for some people who are interested in playing either of the two online. And have you all heard of Empire: Total War, the new one coming out? It's going to blow away all of the previous TW games.
