A question for PC tech wizzes.

I know a lot about PCs, but this x86-64 stuff is new to me. But I'm going to have to dabble now, seeing as Crysis has doomed 32-bit computing to a slow death.

I have a 64-bit mobo, and a Core 2 Duo chip, which is apparently 64-bit as well. Do I need to do anything else, or could I just throw a 64-bit OS right on?

Well you could just try it and see if the magic smoke comes out.

Sounds like it should be fine. One thing about the 64-bit OS was it lacked drivers but that's probably changed since.

Sounds good! just install a 64 bit Linux on your computer and say hello to the 64 bit world (64 bit Windows is still an adventure of driver incompatibilities).
