 Shit!

A couple years ago, I read an article about a type of bacteria normally found in human waste(maybe the same kind) that causes stomach ailments attacked brain cancer cells when introduced there.

Pity they wil probably never use that name. :(

I did a bit of checking and apparently it's Listeria bacteria that's being experimented with. *nod*

Though, more seriously, something like this was bound to come up.

Our own faeces has been a part of our environment, well forever really. Even fish consume their own faeces.

The most significant step in the elimination of diseases like cholera and dysentry is clean water and sanitation. Keeping our own shit out of our mouths seems common-sense to civilized folk ... but it's probably only significant because of the population density of modern people.

Less dense populations fertilized their fields with their own crap, without dying out. (We lived with our diseases, in a way, and it weeded out the weak.)

Taking that away is bound to have some rare syndromes follow from it. This may be one, just as children raised in over-sanitized environments (trying to kill all bacteria, not just faecal) leads to problems from a weak immune system.

I've heard that children with pets in the house (cats, specifically) are less likely to suffer from allergies or food intolerances. Pets (or farm animals, game etc) go back a long way too.
