Bomb explosion in the Philippines

Two people, including a congressman, died when an explosion destroyed part of the building's lobby. The bomb was planted on a motorcycle parked near the congressman's car, the police said.

[...] Ten people were also injured in the blast which hit the south lobby of the sprawling complex in the capital Manila shortly after most congressman had left for the evening, officials said.

[...] Congresswoman Luz Ilagan said she was walking to her car when "there was a sudden explosion."

"I was heading to my car because the session had already adjourned. When we were going down the south wing, there was a sudden explosion," Ilagan said from a hospital. "I managed to walk but after a while I stumbled and realized my feet were bloodied and I couldn't stand up anymore," she said.

"My driver did not make it," she added.

To think just four months ago I was all over Manila, even that mall that got bombed a few weeks ago...

I hope my family doesn't get caught up in any future bombings. Scratch that. I hope the bombings will stop.

It just goes to show that these terrorists are nothing more than cowardly vermin that should be destroyed at every possible opportunity. They stand for nothing other than suffering, death, and oppression and will kill anyone without a thought as long as it fits their twisted schemes.

Hopefully the government and people of the country unite to wipe out the people (and I struggle to even consider them people) responsible for this attack.

Since when did the Philippine government bomb their own Capital Building? It was Muslim seperatist terrorists, dude.

Then they shouldn't be a US ally.

I'm pretty sure the US isn't allied with a bunch of murderous, evil nutjobs whose only direction in life is to kill as many people as possible for their own twisted goals. The murderers who did this are evil, worthless scum that deserve either to be killed or rot in jail for the rest of their miserable, meaningless lives.

You people sure love to jump the gun. The article does not mention who or why the bomb was planted. It could be anyone for any reason.

As for you Andaras Prime AKA Eureka Australis, you're just full of it.

How are they cowards? How many people have the guts to plan something like this? And then how many actually carry it out?

They're cowards because they are murdering defenseless people rather than taking on those capable of fighting back. These scum only prey on the vulnerable because they are too weak and too cowardly to ever stand up against a real adversary, and it shows when the victims of these attacks start fighting back.

That's why they've been wiped out and imprisoned by the tens of thousands around the world with nowhere near the same losses on our side.

True, but I don't think it matters. A terrorist is a terrorist no matter for what purpose they murder.

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW (sorry that's all I heard)
It's called asymmetrical warfare friend, you best read up. The reason they don't use symmetrical tactics is because the 'Wests' technology in that area is too great and they would loose. Seriously mate, you should drop the whole emotionalist 'cowards!' stuff, it's old and shows your nationalism and superiority complex.

Who? *looks around*

Still, Iraq and the Philippines are incomparable. You cannot say that we should not be concerned just because so many people are dying in Iraq. Both are causes of concern.

However, I, being the typical Filipino fatalist, would be going to the shopping mall later after class. Screw those bombs.

Well I found it ridiculous how much outrage there was at this single, tiny bombing. If people reacted to every bombing like this, than they would be in constant rage at the injustices in Iraq. But since it's all Muslims dying, no one really gives a shit.

Desensitization perhaps? Well, my reaction at the news, was "Again? meh..." Perhaps I'm just too used to explosions here every now and then. But then again, we are fatalists...

Actually, the congressman who died in the explosion was a Muslim representative from Mindanao. The two others are staffers of other representatives.

Well then you need you're hearing checked, because I was just objectively pointing out that the emotionalist nationalist rantings of people like Vetalia are ill-conceived and do little to put light on the motivations of such asymmetrical attacks, so I took the opportunity to enlighten him. Of course I expect this won't accomplish much, and will not likely penetrate his blind nationalism and superiority complex, as I said.

Perhaps, but it doesn't make it less wrong. If a small bombing in the Phillipines upsets you, the situation in Iraq should make you feel far far worse.

That's not the point, the Phillipines has a very large non-Muslim population (which I think is the majority), while nearly everyone in Iraq is a Muslim.

No. I am not upset by both. I used to be, but I think I had become too tired to be upset. *sighs*

My point was that perhaps it isn't because "they are Muslims," but rather many people are tired and fatigued at being upset and that nothing had been happening to stop the carnage. We had our spate of bombings, many of the victims were Christians, but I am not upset because "they are Christians", but because I am just too tired to panic.

Conversely, many others are concerned because this happens rarely, while in Iraq, it's everyday. That's what I was saying - desensitization - not that they don't care because it is Muslims who are dying, but rather it is too darn played out. (Note that I am not talking for everybody... as for me, though, both scenarios are too darn played out already... though I have to say we really have to do something for those situations, not just panic. Do something concrete and real.)

Anyways, life would still go on for you and I and everyone else, panicking and feeling bad always won't solve anything... and incidentally, life must go on for me, as I should be going to the wards right now... ;)

I know what you were saying with desensitization, but what I was trying to say is the entire time is that people are in an uproar, they are really pissed about this (look at some earlier posts). I found this highly ironic, considering that its about 100 times worse than this in Iraq every day.

And I do think that Iraqis being "barbaric troglodyte Muzlimz" is a part of that desensitization, whether you think it is a large part or not, the "they are different from us" factor does play here. (Although the Philipines are pretty different too)

You mean like using advanced munitions to bomb third world countries that have been under crippling sanctions lasting over a decade? Or like killing random people and planting evidence that they're the "enemy"? Ooh ooh! How about stuffing children into cupboards and riddling it with bullets?

Yes. Unjustified killing is murder no matter who is doing it. Terrorism is just one form of the same kind of crime. A Blackwater mercenary or soldier that murders and then attempts to cover it up is morally no different from a terrorist bombing a nightclub or an assassin attempting to kill an innocent politician. They all deserve the same fate, to be reviled and punished severely by people around the world.

But they aren't, and you still seem to be giving undue hatred to these particular petty criminals when you're ignoring the biggest terrorism state in existence, the United States of America.
