Anyone interested in doing freestyle battles on NS? I think it would be fun. Let me know if you want to. We can entertain the NSGese.

Also, just for everyone to answer, who is your favorite American hip hop lyricist/MC (I refuse to say rapper)

Big Daddy Kane vs. Dolemite is my favorite battle ever. Thus, I voted for Kane. However, this poll could use more Slick Rick, Ice-T, and NWA.

Anticon, y’all.

Please don't ask me to freestyle; it'll only lead to tears.

Mike Patton (Squeeze Me Macaroni)
and
Weird Al (Couch Potato and Hardware Store)
I'd provide lyrics but there isn't really a point.

M. C. Escher is my favorite MC.

Here is my freestyle. The best in the thread.

Now this is a story all about how my
Life got flipped turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I become the prince of a town called Bel-Air

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out, maxin', relaxin', all cool
And all shootin' some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys they were up to no good
Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air."

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought, "Nah, forget it. Yo home to Bel-Air!"

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabby yo holmes smell ya later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

Sorry. I had to. That song has been in my head for days.

I can't freestyle, and probably won't ever try. That said, Scroobius Pip is a personal favourite (or, rather, the only hip-hop act I like).

Glad to see another Dose fan; I've seen him three times live now, the guy is sublime.

And, boy, can he fit a lot of words into one line of rhyme.

Perhaps because it's possibly the only hip-hop act the Torygraph has favourably reviewed? ;)

I jest; get some Anticon in ya. (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=anticon&search=Search&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&spell=1)

My favourite is MC Squared, and his partner, EE Cool.
I used to freestyle (even had a polishpoint built up on one of my nails), but mostly played ultimate.

Nas is my favorite of the options there. He really has an amazing way of putting his tracks together. I'm not sure I'd say he's my favorite freestyler, though.

I've only recently discovered him trough clouddead, and later with 13 & god and deep puddle dynamics. So I haven't seen him live. From the anticon label I only know alias too, which is also great. It's now one of my favorite labels.

Edgar *dun dun* Allan Poe!

1843
THE CONQUEROR WORM
by Edgar Allan Poe

Lo! 'tis a gala night
Within the lonesome latter years!
An angel throng, bewinged, bedight
In veils, and drowned in tears,
Sit in a theatre, to see
A play of hopes and fears,
While the orchestra breathes fitfully
The music of the spheres.

Mimes, in the form of God on high,
Mutter and mumble low,
And hither and thither fly-
Mere puppets they, who come and go
At bidding of vast formless things
That shift the scenery to and fro,
Flapping from out their Condor wings
Invisible Woe!

That motley drama- oh, be sure
It shall not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not,
Through a circle that ever returneth in
To the self-same spot,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.

But see, amid the mimic rout
A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
The scenic solitude!
It writhes!- it writhes!- with mortal pangs
The mimes become its food,
And seraphs sob at vermin fangs
In human gore imbued.

Out- out are the lights- out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

-THE END-

It’s now one of my favorite labels.
Damn straight!

No other label quite like it.

A few recommendations: first of all you should check out Dose’s bandmates in cLOUDDEAD, Why? and Odd Nosdam, along with the rest of the founding members of Anticon; Sole, Alias (of which you already know), the Pedestrian, and Jel.

Anticon have three compilation CDs I’d highly recommended you get if you want to get into more of their stuff, Hip Hop For The Advanced Listener, Music For The Advancement of Hip Hop and the GigaSingle.

Hip Hop For The Advanced Listener can be quite tricky to track down, but copies of the other two are plentiful and dirt cheap (assuming you buy music...). The tracks on each compilation are picked and mixed by the Anticon crew together, so on top of getting a large selection of Anticon stuff, they’re good records in their own right.

Ach, I can’t big them up enough.

thanks for the recommendations. If I have some more money (I'm renting a room closer to university since a week and most of my money goes to essentials like food and beer) I might purchase them.

IT is the sickest lyrically. What he says has passion and this passion translate into a sense of understanding not reached by most commercial artists.
