The Little Fish Would Not Die.

The fishtank apparently developed a chemical inbalance involving nitrates. We discovered this when one of the dwarf platys started behaving strangely - like he was drunk. We quickly remedied the chemical problem, but the fish continued to float on his side and occasionally lurch drunkenly about the tank - still living. Rather than flush him down the toilet, we observed for about 4 days. The fish would not die. After the fifth day, he righted himself and began to behave normally. This is one tough little fish. I think he deserves a name. I personally like Cagney for James Cagney - a tough little guy. However, I think I'll open this up to NS General. a Nishgie for the winner.

Platys in general are freaking tanks. Half of the fish in our tank died about a month after we bought/set up the tank from a bout of Ick whose source we're still not sure of, but suspect was the result of an infected fish being placed in the tank with the other fish, as we'd just bought a whole bunch of serape and neon tetras from PetsMart. We had two platys, absolutely refused to die. We had the medicine in the tank, still some of the other fish were dying, these guys had the Ick pustules on them and they still managed to survive it.

My suggestion: PlatyTank

Ruffy.

Acts drunk, has probably at some point been exposed to fatal amounts of unknown chemicals, and yet amazingly lurches onward.

Either that or Ash Williams.

The joint Naming Nishgie goes to ...

Andaluciae, Khadgar and Whereyouthinkyougoing. With a nod to his color our young fish will be named ... Orange Ruffy Invincifish.

Thank you all for participating.
