Happy Diwali everyone !!!

Diwali is arguably the most popular festival for Hindus cutting across sects, castes, regions and even across religions (Jains, Sikhs etc).

Wish I was in India.....sigh...in Seattle now and the weather is too dreary and gloomy...:(

The only consolation is the streaming video of tv channels in internet beaming special programmes on the occasion.. :)

Well, it involves lighting up fire crackers and cooking sweets and giving to neighbors.

I might get arrested if I do that here. :D

Diwali seems to take out the fact that I'm a Hindu in a non-Hindu family, so I don't like to be reminded of it. Also, it was yesterday night (November 9th 2007).

Is that the one where they paint each other bright colors? I love that one! :) I think they get high, too, on some kind of tea, which is even better. Anyone else see that episode of the Travel Channel? Looked like some fun.

Tangetially related but driving me nuts-

When I first got stumble a long time ago (it feels like) there was this flash animation thing of the Rama story from Sati's point of view (I could be fucking that all up, which might be why I can't find it now) done to the songs of an old jazz singer and now I can't find it. Anyone know what the fuck I'm talking about?

EDIT: Sita, not Sati. I r stoopid.

Diwali! It snuck up on me! :(

It was really close to the Leonids this year. Wouldn't that have been a delightful intersection? :)

Yes, it would have been, but since they didn't, that just means MORE PARTIES!!

Happy Diwali! :)

Happy Diwali! ... belated.
The food is so excellent -- Scandinavian hasn't got anything on Indian cooking. (My mom's boss is from India, so we celebrate a great many reflected holidays.)

Didn't realize you were in Seattle too. Well as you should know you will not see the sun until next spring.

It is not that bad. Me and a cousin managed to play some tennis on saturday. Last year it was horrible with that storm and all. This years seems to be ok.

Also, I get to stay in Florida half the month...so I can't whine much. :D
