ooc: this might be getting into technical, I don't know... but anyway
when it asks for my MSN handle on my edit profile screen in my user cp, is it asking for my display name? my e-mail address? what is it asking for exactly?

in General you don't need to use ooc or ic as it's not a roll playing fourm like NS or II
