Rudolph W. Giuliani is a supporter of gay and abortion rights who is building his Republican primary campaign around his response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Pat Robertson, the Christian conservative broadcaster, once said permissiveness toward homosexuality and abortion led to God’s “lifting his protection” to allow those attacks.

But there they were Wednesday morning, Mr. Robertson endorsing Mr. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, as “an acceptable” Republican “who can win the general election.”
How did this happen?

EDIT: This is slightly off-topic, but funny all the same. The four major candidates for the party of values, the Republicans, have had on average two wives each. The godless Democrats, including the woman whose husband was involved in the most famous affair of the past twenty years, have had, on average, one spouse.

How did this happen?

*puts on foil hat*

Theres only one way someone who openly opposed homosexuality to an extreme would begin spouting pro-gay propaganda instead of the usual homophobic kind. the liberals brainwashed him.

Is Giuliani really going to accept that endorsement? While it may (keyword may) be helpful in the primaries, it's not going to help in the national elections.

He already has. I didn't copy the whole link, but it goes into greater detail how it all happened.

How did this happen?

keeping the coalition together is the only hope they have. and when giuliani loses, they can claim it is because he wasn't wingnutty enough on the social conservatism scale

why should anyone be surprised?

wasn't it already obvious before this, that the corporate mafia has gooliani picket to run for the republirats and m'lady hillary for the demicins?

do you reall think they'd let anyone be nominated by either party who hasn't already pledged to kiss their you know watsis?

not that i can see the "r" side of the isle having anyone with a conscience in the running at all.

i wish those who do on the "d" side stood more then a snowflakes chance. of course if the economic dictators of american politics find themselves sufficiently distracted, which a number of factors COULD bring about, then of course all bets will be off.

any bets they won't stage another crystal nockt like 9-11 within a year of election if they do get a clear voter indorsement of consciousless world conquest?

I agree. I've been on the fence about Giuliani. This really lowers my respect for the man. Considering the absolute heinous insane bullshit that came out of Robertson's mouth after 9-11, Giuliani should have publicly told him to shove his endorsement up his ass. Had Giuliani had the balls to do that, I would have proudly voted for him.

The only thing this proves is that the "Christian" Right's only values are war and the police state. There is no significant difference between them and the Muslim nuts that attacked us on 9/11 (the only differences are of circumstances).

However, I am certain that the warmongering fascist Giuliani has no chance to begin with (the American people are not stupid enough to elect somebody that evil, though the Red State Fascist minority is).

I think Andrew Sullivan is right when he calls the "Christian" Right Christianists (in parallel to the use of the phrase Islamists), however I would prefer to call them Iscariots, Religerrents, or Wilsonian Gnostics to distinguish them from genuine Christians who worship a Prince of Peace and don't use Christianity as a mask for a hate group.
