What do you think is the cheesiest line of all time in books or movies?

Is it raining? I hadn't noticed.

Awful line in an otherwise great film.

Cataline Stone: [sigh] I'm exhausted.
Ben Carpenter: Yeah, me too. But you know I'm really wired. What do you say I... take you home and eat your pussy.

What's even better is when that movie is broadcast it's changed to "Take you home and watch I Love Lucy.

"You'll never get away with this!"

But the cheesiest moment in any film would have to be from the Mighty Duck series. It's like they're down by one goal and it five seconds from the buzzer...

Han Solo (paraphrased): Uhh...Everything's fine here at the station, we has some minor equipment failure. We're all good... Uh, how are you?

-----------------------------------------------------

You know the one I'm talking about, the scene on the Death Star. Actually, in the case of this cheesy line, I've heard that Harrison Ford had actually forgotten his bit, and totally ad-libbed this. It was so absurd that George Lucas decided to keep the take. Really though, just because it is stupid doesn't make it less of a classic.

Oh, right. Yes, that was cheesy.

Apparently in the Chinese version, there was some translation trouble so he shouts (in Chinese) "NOT GOOOOOOD!!!!!" I think that's better than just, "No."

He also shouts DO NOT WANT, which is the source of said meme.

This comes from the fact that there's no real word for 'No' exactly in Chinese, it's more negation.

You'd say 'bu', so 'bu hao' is not good, and 'bu yao' is not want.

You can say 'bu' stand alone but it really means 'not', and more simply a negative indicator as opposed to 'no'.

Which would explain it; the person who made this translation apparently didn't translate it idiomatically, so rather than render the same sentiment in English they simply used the literal translation DO NOT WANT, which of course sounds rather ridiculous when used in a language that has a different way of expressing a negative sentiment. This, of course, is why literal translation tends not to be a good idea...

If I had been translating I'd have preferred using 'bu ke neng', effectively translated as 'impossible', for the anguished wail, which I suppose is what it was, I'd probably just go for 'aiya' though, which effectively means nothing but works as a recognized anguished wail.

Having said that, I'd rather not have had to use it at all - it completed the ruination of the entire thing.

If I could have re-shot it myself, I'd have gone for silence, head facing downwards and clenched fists to express the anger.

Here's another one ( I hope every translation of the Iliad isn't like this): (describing the Chimera) "It breathed flames of fire!"

Other then that it's a good book if you like action. It goes on for pages describing battle scenes.

And of course the fact that the American does in fact prevail just adds to it.

You know, I've figured something out. Every time the evil character in anything gives a speech about how powerful and amazing he is the the hero/heroine, it always ends up that he/she will get their ass kicked after a prolonged battle, in which they appear to be winning in the beginning. What's worse, they usually tell said main character that they will do something to the person that person loves, thus angering the main character to a state of pure rage, giving them the final strength to finally beat them, almost without breaking a sweat there after.
