NSG Awards Ceremony--The Nishgies

New Limacon
06-11-2007, 21:41
Welcome to the NSG Awards Ceremony. Tonight, we will be giving posters awards based on whatever we feel like. Let the ceremony commence!

This is what the statue looks like (thanks to Anti-Social Darwinism for going to the trophy store):

I hope there will be many more, so that this ceremony may become as long as ultimately pointless as real award ceremonies, like the Oscars or Grammies.

EDIT: The stuff in bold means you can nominate anyone for any award you can think of. If you agree with someone's nomination, say so. This is kind of an "open source" award ceremony.
EDIT EDIT: Effective now, there are no self-nominations, mostly because I like making arbitrary rules.
EDIT EDIT EDIT: At least one poster has said he does not read "EDIT EDITs." I apologize. In the future, I will put everything in one edit.
EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: On second thought, I won't.

*The most unlikely received no award.

There should be more awards...and different kinds that are so lame like 'most Swedish" or "best moderator" (and then choosing a non-existant moderator instead of a active mod)......

Plus there should be some rewards that I should get.

I would like to make a preliminary nomination to New Limacon for the Award Giving Award.

Also, I nominate FreedomAndGlory for the Three Billy Goats Gruff award in recognition of long service in the area of Trolling.

I nominate LG for the Mud Pie award, for obvious reasons.

Finally, I nominate everyone yet posting in this thread for the Nishgy Attendance Award.

I am going to go through this thread and edit out all references to the poster who has asked not to be included. It was bloody silly of you all to keep on with that after he had asked. Even sillier to flame while doing it.

I am not closing the thread, despite its spamminess, because it can be a good-humoured way of letting some of the shyer members of the community get to know the group.

When I say "it can be", what I'm meaning is, "it better be", m'kay?

Does this include the mentions of, er, the poster in the OP? I removed the only one I think was actually insulting, unless you include Swedishness or modesty as bad attributes, and don't see how simply having his name in my post can be considered an insult.
But, as always, I surrender to the wisdom of the Mods, and am willing to do whatever you say--not that it would make a difference if I were unwilling, but it sounds more like a choice this way.

I have no idea how the above got there. Well, I do: mass editing gets me confused. I thought I was editing Grave'n'Idle's post.

New Limacon, take 'em all out, please, and thanks for saving me the trouble.

Dinaverg, yes, it does mean yellowed. When you're old and cynical and hardened by exposure to General, the whites of your eyes turn yellow.

Or you can go for the metaphorical meaning, in which "to jaundice" means "to distort or prejudice, as with pessimism, jealousy, resentment, etc" (Macquarie Dictionary).

You can bet I am looking on this thread in a prejudiced, unforgiving, mean, nasty, fashion.

Furthermore, I think I'm still drunk from last night, and it's after 11 am here.

There ain't no justice! I was robbed, it's not fair! I'm boycotting your next silly award ceremony, you all wear fur.

Well don't worry. I'll never be a mod...even if I was asked I'd flat out deny it. I'm not interested in that kind of responsibility.

"If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve" huh?

Well, he's probably not going to find out I guess. Because when he's back then this thread is either very long or buried somewhere deep in the trenches of old topics.

Imperial Brazil could easily read this as an unreg user.
That's exactly what I would do.

You can drink a lot more without falling over if you don't smoke. So I gave up smoking.

But we really shouldn't do this. Being a heavy drinker is nothing to be proud of. :(

Sort of...I'm just not interested in responsibility over this forum. Though I have to admit I'm saying what I am now with the understanding that I'd never be asked anyway. If actually asked I might very well give it some thought.

But since I see that as highly unlikely at best, it's a moot point.

But I was serious about being honest to yourselves. Right now you can't bear the thought of being considered bigots. I want you to think about why that is...contemplate the possibilities. People who quote from dictionaries are of course very boring.
I found this quite fascinating because I am very boring:

bigot
1598, from Middle French bigot, from Old French, supposedly a derogatory name for Normans, the old theory (not universally accepted) being that it springs from their frequent use of O.E. oath bi God. Plausible, since the Eng. were known as goddamns in Joan of Arc's France, and during World War I Americans serving in France were said to be known as les sommobiches (see also son of a bitch). But the earliest Fr. use of the word (12c.) is as the name of a people apparently in southern Gaul. The earliest Eng. sense is of "religious hypocrite," especially a female one, and may be influenced by beguine. Sense extended 1687 to other than religious opinions.

Hilarious! I particularly like the idea of two favourite US oaths actually being French.

Come on Kyro, give us a laugh. Sorry to hear about your sinuses.

And your humble thread is blessed by an actual mod! Who isn't Kat!

And this actual mod is spamming your thread! With advertising for the new and better spam forum!!

Oh, happy day!

I resent that! It's not spamming. Get your terms right: it's a threadja--

Oh, wait.

Ahem. It is, of course, i n f o r m a t i o n, the role of the mods being to educate and inform; just like the media, only cheaper.

Now get back on topic, you shameless not-on-topic-poster!

Since this thread started, I started a thread of my own "Confess! Who are your puppets?" which has pretty much wound-down now.

EDIT: Er, no surprisingly. About 6 new entries since.

Of course, anyone with or without puppets on NSG is welcome to post to it still, but I won't link to it here ... that would be dread and foul SPAMMING, now wouldn't it?

The subject is obviously quite different, but I was somewhat inspired by the OP's "open-source model." I should have thought it through more.

New Limacon, is there anything you would have done differently here?

I'd like to note that editing the OP to keep up with posts is a huge hassle, and it would be really cool if we could have tables, like an html or Word table, even if they just display as plain text.

It's also given me some insight into the role of the Original Poster. Once you allow for editing the OP, people blame the Original Poster for just about everything ... it's a little taste of Mod-dom perhaps.

Thanks New Limacon. Funky thread there. 100% chat, of course, but I enjoyed it heaps!

I in turn stole the idea from Dinaverg's "We Are Family" thread. The link is in my signature.
You're right, it would be easier if there was some HTML table that could be changed, or a wiki. Many, many weeks from now, people will look back at the New Limacon Model* and marvel at how their forefathers had to edit the original post each time, instead of using whatever amazing technology will be discovered between now and then. We are pioneers, Nobel Hobos, cutting the paths that others will take after us.

* Sorry, Dinaverg, I named it first.

Well, I'm going to pack up my test-tubes and my world-domination guffaws and go sulk on the comfortable seats in the UN forum. My little attempt at social experimentation failed miserably.
I am not closing the thread, despite its spamminess, because it can be a good-humoured way of letting some of the shyer members of the community get to know the group.

Bah. The thread's full of the usual suspects and only five 2007-ers. And somehow I don't think Barringtonia (2567 posts) or Xiscapia (2750) can be described as shy.

Note to self: Generalites make lousy laboratory rats.

Rules DON'T say "you can't second yourself"

Or any other n00b, or puppet, or mod. Post a second, for Justice!

Half a rat's-arse, anyway, for justice!

Post ye, and allow New Limacon, the OP, to redeem himself from the descent into fascism constituted by putting a mod straight in the list for breaking the first rule without even a seconder.

As OP, I have executive privilege. There are plenty of people I nominate and then second without actually posting such. Katganistan was one such example.

You can't take three from two,
Two is less than three,
So you look at the four in the tens place.
Now that's really four tens
So you make it three tens,
Regroup, and you change a ten to ten ones,
And you add 'em to the two and get twelve,
And you take away three, that's nine.
Is that clear?

Now instead of four in the tens place
You've got three,
'Cause you added one,
That is to say, ten, to the two,
But you can't take seven from three,
So you look in the hundreds place.

From the three you then use one
To make ten ones...
(And you know why four plus minus one
Plus ten is fourteen minus one?
'Cause addition is commutative, right!)...
And so you've got thirteen tens
And you take away seven,
And that leaves five...

Well, six actually...
But the idea is the important thing!

Now go back to the hundreds place,
You're left with two,
And you take away one from two,
And that leaves...?

Everybody get one?
Not bad for the first day!

Hooray for New Math,
New-hoo-hoo Math,
It won't do you a bit of good to review math.
It's so simple,
So very simple,
That only a child can do it!

Now, that actually is not the answer that I had in mind, because the book that I got this problem out of wants you to do it in base eight. But don't panic! Base eight is just like base ten really - if you're missing two fingers! Shall we have a go at it? Hang on...

You can't take three from two,
Two is less than three,
So you look at the four in the eights place.
Now that's really four eights,
So you make it three eights,
Regroup, and you change an eight to eight ones
And you add 'em to the two,
And you get one-two base eight,
Which is ten base ten,
And you take away three, that's seven.
Ok?

Now instead of four in the eights place
You've got three,
'Cause you added one,
That is to say, eight, to the two,
But you can't take seven from three,
So you look at the sixty-fours...

"Sixty-four? How did sixty-four get into it?" I hear you cry! Well, sixty-four is eight squared, don't you see? "Well, ya ask a silly question, ya get a silly answer!"

From the three, you then use one
To make eight ones,
You add those ones to the three,
And you get one-three base eight,
Or, in other words,
In base ten you have eleven,
And you take away seven,
And seven from eleven is four!
Now go back to the sixty-fours,
You're left with two,
And you take away one from two,
And that leaves...?

Now, let's not always see the same hands!
One, that's right.
Whoever got "one" can stay after the show and clean the erasers.

Hooray for New Math,
New-hoo-hoo Math!
It won't do you a bit of good to review math.
It's so simple,
So very simple,
That only a child can do it!
Come back tomorrow night...we're gonna do fractions!

fuck lab rats, generalites will never fully submit to the will of anyone. not even those NG celebraties that have existed. (i know how entranced and preoccupied by the game some people are so they'll inevitably point out some poster or other who's gunna pown us all, unfortunately that only works if we care, ha! welcome to NSG bitches.) and only selectively to those mods who will forever slime their malignant juice over free discussion and humour.

i would certainly support a nomination for that poster of many names to be set on fire. or maybe just drowned. or actually parched. it'd be ironic see, cuz he hates arabs right? and arabs are living in the desert. and when you are on peyote the only peops in control are a bunch of mexicans. how safe can you reasonably feel after all that scaremongering foxshite?
