food is delicious!
Especially when one goes out and tries new things or makes things for themselves. Yesterday I went to the market here and tried some pancake like thing that was made with potato and cheese and I found some delicious hummus, which reminded me that I need to buy a food processor so I can make my own and I bought some turkish delight. I also made some miso soup this morning and it tasted like miso soup that I've had before so I assume I didn't screw it up.
Given the general deliciousness of food, I'm surprised that more people aren't fat... but then I guess that people who are really fat don't tend to eat a variety of good foods so much as eating a pile of crappy food.
Anyways, has anyone else discovered some delicious foodstuffs that they want to recommend to others or talk about?

Those little tiny octopus things are in season right now. Always worth a punt.
What a sweeping generalization this thread is.

Yes.
Butterscotch-black raspberry-marshmallow milkshakes.
Mmmm-gooda.
What a sweeping generalization this thread is.
Ok, well, not all food is delicious, but why would one eat it if it wasn't?

Starvation usually.
Or because you are from scotland or the midwest.

Because its "good for you".

In our case you are wrong. We are not excessively fat, but we are not exactly in peak physical condition either. This is down to both of us being very good cooks who are more than willing to experiment with new and different foods. (Us, by the way, refers to myself and my wife.)
Don't assume that those who are overweight necessarily eat a pile of crappy food.

Ok, out with it. You're in a very good mood for some reason besides the food... Or do you really like food as much as *gasp* I do?
Speaking of which, you should try Pierogies with Kielbasa. It's one hell of a delicious lunch.
Starvation usually.
Well, yes, this would be the one case...
Or because you are from scotland or the midwest.
I'm sure there's some good scottish food. If there wasn't I'm sure the people who live there would have found a better way to cook such that their food becomes delicious.

I didn't say people who are overweight... I said fat. There's a difference. I don't know anyone who I would consider fat who doesn't eat a pile of garbage. There are tons of overweight people who eat a variety of good foods, but I've never encountered a fat person who does likewise.

It's true that the scots seem to esteem it highly. But they also live in a perpetual whisky fog.
For the rest of us however, taking perfectly edible ingredients and submerging them in boiling stale oil for thirty minutes seems to be a less than optimal way of preparing food.
My brother has lived there for nearly ten years and still hasn't gotten used to it.

Well, I did spend all weekend procrastinating on my schoolwork... but I really do like food. :)

I love pirogies! They're deliciousness in dumpling form. Well... there are lots of delicious dumplings, I somewhat wonder if it's just hard to go wrong with this food format. I don't eat meat though, so the kielbasa is out.

Maybe... but I don't eat foods that I find revolting no matter how healthy they are since I know that there are lots of foodstuffs out there that are both delicious and nutritious. For instance, brussel sprouts are disgusting.

1: Good, good.
2: Well, you can still eat a lot of great stuff without meat. You're not a Vegan, are you? If not, try some pan fried pierogies (use real sweet cream salted butter as a grease) topped with cheese, with a side of french fries and some cole slaw.
Pretty much anything Midwestern is delicious.

lately i've rediscovered Dover Sole, though apparently its not the same as american dover sole...
European Dover sole yields thicker, firmer fillets and is much more highly esteemed than West Coast sole -- a fact clearly reflected in price. Chefs prize true Dover sole for its mild, buttery sweet flavor and versatility.
its delicious with a slight lemon sauce.

This thread brought to you by the General Forum of Generalites.
Also, anything tastes better with coarsely ground black pepper and/or finely ground cayenne pepper, paprika, onion, garlic, dehydrated bell pepper, salt, coriander (delete items as appropriate to particular foodstuff being prepared). MSG is the cheap alternative, but it's not as good and just as unhealthy.

Kinda surprised no one's mentioned Casu Marzu.

Because we're talking about good food. I haven't tried it - don't see myself in line to gobble it up anytime soon - BUT, it could be another "acquired taste".
Other than being illegal ... how's it worse, again, than blood pudding or rocky mountain oysters ... or oysters, in general?

Ruffy did a little while ago - on WYTYG's photo thread. Chocolate hearts!

Hmmm .. i thought they just used the larvae for a little while to do what it needed to do. o.9
A person could shake the cheese out onto the frying pan and mix in a little chocolate syrup and cooking sherry.
Oh well.

If you fried it, probs okay.
But if you eat it as intended, it can make you shit blood. Best avoided really.

Might as well slurp down the pufferfish without first slicing out the pointy parts.

I made a simple casserole out of it yesterday. I even have left overs so I can have it again :)

I think it also goes toxic fairly easily.
I suppose it is okay if you chew your food but I'd still give it a miss

Well, I would definitely consider myself fat. And I would usually cook what I eat myself, mostly from fresh ingredients. I love variety and can't stand junk food. *shrugs* Then again, I might be the exception that proves the rule...

I am definitely fat. Not proud of it, just a statement of fact. I cook and eat a variety of foods. I am inordinately fond of green salads (not the iceberg lettuce and fatty dressing variety) with a variety of leafy greens, fish of almost any variety, vegetables of almost any variety - the fresher the better, whole grain bread, etc.
Of course I also like chocolate, butter, whole milk and fried foods - and I hate to exercise - guess why I'm fat.
One of my favorite things is this:
Take a couple of slices of good French or Italian bread, brush them with olive oil, layer sliced tomatos, basil, mozarella cheese. Put under the broiler for a minute - to die for.

The other day I had some vegetable lo mein that had cooled to room temperature (it was like 6 hours old) and soaked in soy sauce. I thought it tasted pretty good, but that probably means it was just barely edible to most people. For some reason I can only stand food that is really good, or really crap.
