Oh yes. So seconded. :fluffle: One of my friends is mailing me a doujinshi she picked up at Yaoicon so, my collection's going to get a little bigger soon :D
It's pointless, generally stupid.

The idea or just the stereotypes and cliches that are attached? Me, I love the idea (looking back, I sometimes think I was a born slasher, since even before I knew it existed, I'd notice and be attracted to male character "buddy" pairs in almost all media, and even when I was in my OMG I HATE THIS time, my originals were crappy but my main male characters ended up together and crying over how wrong it was) but I agree that the seme/uke stereotypes and a lot of cliches are bad stuff.

Don't really mind it. Most of the stories written in it are shallow and vapid. Not much depth.

I think vapid and shallow are the selling points.

Considering that most of it is written explicitly to satisfy the sexual desire (shipping desire? fan types are weird) of the author, the storytelling strength is typically equal to that of a tissue paper boat in a typhoon.

What is yaoi? Besides a word that looks severely misspelled, I mean.

It's a fancy word for gay cartoons. Seriously.
Yaoi is basically love between two men, often done in a Manga form so it is basically the gay Manga.

Yaoi is the best way to meet sexually frustrated nerd girls known to man.

Yeah, it's love between men in manga/anime. It doesn't have to be pornographic, but I assume that's what the OP is talking about.
I have a bit of it, but only since I collect whatever I find that is related to anime and games and stuff that I like, no matter what genre it's in. I personally prefer yuri (lesbian) and futa (dickgirls).
Yaoi? RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!
So says the Man in Japan.

I do not mind it. I neither hate nor love it, but think it's good that our culture is tolerant enough for it! I guess in Saudi Arabia drawing yaoi is a sign of a deathwish :(
I prefer my gay cartoon porn to be real life straight porn.

Meh. It's all good. In my mind all porn is created equal.
I just don't like the Japanese comic-art style.....Even if it was Female/Female it would have no appeal to me.

Japanese cartooning of any variety is an aquired taste. That and typically the stories presented are a bit...different...than what one might expect in the West.
...But I love 'em. I'll be watching the last few episodes of Hale & Guu tomorrow, and then Code Geass on Thursday.

O I watched a bit of Manga years ago....."Crying Freeman" and "Urotsukidōji" are two I remember. I like the stories, fair enough, but again the art put me off. I was a 2000ad man, with a bit of Marvel etc thrown in, growing up, so I think my preferences as to what a comic/animation should roughly look like are "set"......

I've got no problem with yaoi myself, but the people that tend to gravitate to it irritate the shit out of me.

No interest, for the simple reason of it being the wrong orientation. "Other" kinds of Japanese animation, however...

How lucky. A friend of mine had printed off some dj she/he(?) got off a strictly yaoi website for adults and gave the binder to me. :)
Though most of my yaoi is written that I've read written by friends of mine. (Of course, I have plenty of my own yaoi fanfiction).
What is yaoi? Besides a word that looks severely misspelled, I mean.
It's an acronym (when written in romanji that is). It's not horribly misspelt as this is how it looks when written with Latin characters.

Oh yeah, I write too. And I'm quite offended at people going "omg it's all shallow plots." Yes, 90 percent of it is, but 90 percent of EVERYTHING is shallow crap, no matter what nation or sexual orientation it is from.
