I, for one, welcome our Mouse overlords!

Supermouse sets 6km record - check out the video (http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/video/2007/nov/02/supermouse) - it's like a Duracell ad.

Seriously, on what grounds would we refuse genetic engineering to allow ourselves to do incredible things. I'm not sure I need a reason to run 6km in record time and, I suppose, this will be used militarily before we civilians get a hold of it but what else would you like genetically engineered so you can perform better?

Cognitive faculties. I want to be smarter, have a better memory, and be even more competent and various mental tasks than before. Personally, I'd prefer implants as opposed to biological changes, due to the comparative disadvantage of wetware in terms of durability and ease of replacement or upgrading. It takes a lot more work to change biology than mechanical enhancements.

Either way, I'm all for it. Nothing like getting a brain up on the competition for nothing more than some time, some money, and my own work.

You realise they've been in control the whole time and the earth is just a computer, right? :p

[/hhgtg] And yes, I have read the book. So long and thanks for the fish. :p

I totally forgot brain power on the poll options, my arrogance is such that even more intelligence did not occur to me as something I need.

Damn it, I hate it when my polls fail.

Once the scientists involved perfect the pumpkin coach the internal combustion engine is all but history.

Yeah yeah, rub it in why don't you

Now I want extendable arms so I can reach across the Pacific, over the continent of America and into Pine Junction, Colorado so I can smack you upside the head :)

My dear, that would require such a feat of science that you'd have much better things to do with your arms.

Because then the Olympics are no longer an athletic event but simply a competition to see who has the better human body mechanic. They're already veering too far in that direction because of people cheating.

And for his next trick, Supermouse will break the record while being chased by his arch-nemesis...

Oh noes, however shall we continue to live without our beloved Olympics?

Wait, let me get this straight...you're saying that because of one athletic competition we shouldn't use something that will be so valuable in so many different ways?

Admittedly I don't like losing the Olympics, but I'm pretty sure we can come up with new competitions that aren't just body mechanic tests. Human ingenuity is something you should never underestimate.

Or the Olympics could come like motor sports. Different categories for different types of machines with different capabilities, the idea ultimately being to test the driver's ability to control the machine.

That'd be neat. People seem to forget that this technology just gives the ability to have such strength or whatever. It doesn't give you the experience and understanding necessary to utilize it well. That still requires a lot of work.

Some things would still be the same really. Things like the weights. They'd just be much much heavier weights.

Exactly.

See, people, it's not that hard to figure this stuff out. If Ifreann can do it, anyone can! :p

"...same thing we do everyday Pinky, run really fast"

This could be potentially disastrous if it escaped as no cat would be able to catch it. We could be overrun with really quick mice in, oh, decades.

Pfft, we just engineer cats like we did with the mice. In fact, engineer everything to make them all faster, so everything will be as it was.
