Do a good deed!

www.freerice.com

Basically, this is a site that donates rice to the World Food Program. What you do is simple. Go to the site, and play around with the little vocab test. For each word you get right, there is 10 grains of rice donated. I easily got to 1000 grains in a few minutes. Not only are you helping people around the world, but you also improve you vocabulary, as with each word you get right you move up a level to a new word, until you reach level 50, which is the highest. Its an easy, fun, and addictive way to help other people out. :)

Anyone else have other easy, not so time consuming, ways to do good deeds either for one's locality, or on a global scale, such as the site I posted?

I'm quite upset that 'Cockloft' doesn't mean 'Womb'

Got up to level 42, I must say they use some peculiar words.

Indeed. It just makes the game that much more thrilling!

I liked to think that I had a particularly larger vocabulary than my peers, but it seems I have much to learn.

I'm quite upset that 'Cockloft' doesn't mean 'Womb'Well, really the meaning of a word depends on how people use it; so give it a few years, and promote its usage as such ;)

The problem is you can't really use an expanded vocabulary, doesn't help if no one knows what you're saying. How often have you heard the word "Nugatory" in a sentence?

My extended vocabulary seems to impress most people I know. :)

So I shall continue to endeavour the further extension of it.

EDIT: An extensive vocabulary also let's you stand out in the eyes of employers. Particularly if you are a Scotsman. ;)

I'm an EFL and I know precious few of those words, but finally, finally I came to the realization that my having learned Latin this last summer has not been in vain after all - I got most right for the few minutes I played anyhow.

I can't help but feeling a little sad... somewhere out there some poor chappie (probably a gap year student) is sitting all by himself, meticuously counting out grains of rice... poor sod.

I have fed a family for a day: 1,140 grains of rice, with a vocab level of 40, a level that was knocked down from 43 in the last ten questions.

This makes getting a high score all the more amusing.

don't people often think you're being arrogant when you use your extended vocabulary? They often find me arrogant when I do (I have a larger vocabulary in Dutch than in English of course)

how much are 1000 grains of rice exactly? is that a meal for a family?
